Hi Rich,

Thanks for the reply.

1) I averaged about 2 hours of study a day, and did a practice test once a week. I took my exam end of Jan and focused on some fundamentals the first few weeks of Feb and started taking tests end of Feb.
2) I started off with some Veritas questions, but around 1 month before the exam I started using the OG exam pack and OG questions from GMATClub. I also did a mock with Veritas and 4 GMAC mocks. GMAC Test 5 and 6 are brand new and I think the best rep of how I expected to do on test day.
3) The scores for my GMAT mocks are as follows:

Veritas Prep Test 1: Feb 21 690(36V/49Q)
GMAC Test 3: Feb 27th 690(41V/44Q)
GMAC Test 4: Mar 13th 720 (44V/47Q)
GMAC Test 5: Mar 20th 690 (37V/47Q)
GMAC Test 6: Mar 27th 700 (41V/44Q)

4) Dream school is NYU Stern, but am considering CMU, Cornell, Duke. Basically top 20 schools. I am planning on applying in 2 years (when I have 4 years of WE) so still early in the app process.

Thanks for the continued advice, appreciate the help :)

Took the test again yesterday and made a 650 (45Q/35V)

Here's someone I helped on Verbal. They went from a V31 to a V40 in about 30 days. May be some helpful insight you can take.

I am looking for advice on where to get additional prep and if possible, tutor recommendations. My backstory:

-enrolled in the Veritas Online Classroom Sessions in July 2021

-Took the GMAT online exam in Oct 2021, but unfortunately it resulted in a technical error

-Did some self-study and got some tutoring through Veritas and took again in Jan 2022. I made a 650 (44Q/36V). At this time, I was pleased with the score because it reflected my practice exams but I knew I wanted to improve.

-Did self-study again and took all the mocks by GMAC, including test 5 and 6, which were brand new. Ended up getting a 690(37V/47Q) and 700(41V/44Q) on those, respectively. I was feeling confident that I could achieve my minimum target of 680.

-Took the test again yesterday and made a 650 (45Q/35V)

I was pretty shocked to see no improvement from my first to my second score. I ended up canceling the second attempt because it showed no improvement. I’m especially appalled at my verbal because in the mocks I was scoring 37-41. I don’t know where I’m going wrong with verbal and really want to get some help. My quant score was what I was getting in the mocks so I’m okay with it. Does anyone have any resources for verbal help and if possible, a tutor recommendation? I’m feeling bummed about seeing no improvement and would really like to get my minimum target next time. I want to take the exam ideally around end of May. Thank you all for your help and suggestions!

Hi sashok98,

Sorry to hear about your experience.

Private tutoring is the best option if you feel you need a personal mentor to guide you through your preparation. Your performance will be constantly monitored by the mentor and based on the feedback you can prepare accordingly. The tutors can analyse your exact pain points and help you with advanced strategies and plan of action. However, to make your private tutoring experience worthwhile, finding the Perfect Tutor Match is highly important.

If you are open to suggestions, I would recommend you to check the private tutoring course offered by GMATWhiz. We offer you a tailor made learning experience with highly experienced teachers at an affordable price and help you indulge in flawlessly personalised learning process. Our tutors have a minimum of 10 years teaching experience and we offer a hybrid learning experience where we combine the best of online learning (technology) with private tutoring. Also, the round-the-clock availability feature allows you to book the slot of your choice not having to worry about our availability on your convenient time. We use an AI based learning platform to do 3 things:

1. Get you a personalized trackable study plan that adapts in real time
2. Track your performance on the portal against 20+ data points for each question.
3. Help you learn the basic concepts through video lessons, thereby saving the number of private tutoring hours you need. (These video lessons are created by the same experts who teach you)

The tutor uses these data points before each session to identify the gaps in your learning and create relevant content for discussion. Hence each session is 5 times more effective than those offered by other private tutors as you get pin-point advice on exact reasons behind your mistakes. As a result, you get the maximum output with minimum number of sessions.
