Hi All,
Long time reader, first time poster.
So I just re-took the GMAT, it's the second time I have taken the test. First time was in December 2015 (610, Q34 28%, V39 89%), and the second time was today October 2016 (640, Q39 39%, V38 85%, ). I completed an in-person
MGMAT course in Summer 2015 and then had a baby in late December 2015 so didn't start studying again until around July 2016.
My recent CATs:
MGMAT (10/24 - only quant no other sections) - Q44 58%
MGMAT (10/22 - only quant no other sections) - Q39 43%
GMAT Prep (10/16) - 710, Q47 73%, V40 90%,
GMAT Prep (9/18) - 700, Q44 63%, V41 93%,
MGMAT (8/13) - 630, Q40 47%, V36 81%,
All of the full length CATs were taken around the same time I took my test today and I didn't pause them and I took the normal breaks. Realistically, my score was in line with how I've been testing, maybe a little below. I would love to crack 680, and if I could just get Q43-ish and maintain my verbal score I would probably get close.
As you can tell, verbal isn't an issue for me. I'm a native english speaker and have just stopped studying it. So all my time goes into Quant. My approach looks something like this:
- Review all areas (this was redone this year around August)
- Take a mock test of 37 GmatPrep questions, then during the week go over each one that I got wrong.
- By "go over", I mean get out an A4 piece of paper for each question, write it out, write out and understand the answers from this forum or from other forums, note what I did right and wrong, and list a number of takeaways from each problem.
- Do a CAT every 2-3 weeks and then spend the next week reviewing the CAT.
- I use the
MGMAT materials and I completed an in-course in summer 2015 (over a year ago now)
- I keep a "careless error" log - although I'm not sure how good I am at stopping these occurring!
- I have a file for each quant area and each time I get a problem wrong and review it, the piece of paper goes into the folder
So the pessimist in me says this is all I've got, I'm a 640-kinda guy. But I'm super hopeful that if I sharpen the edges I can make that jump from Q39 to Q44. I'm just not sure what else I can do! I'm pretty sure I'm going to re-take it in shortly over 16days and see how it goes (late November), one last time. That'll be the last time as Round 2 submissions are due start of December so I'm going to submit my best score at that point.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
Michael
