At an elementary school, 35 percent of the students have their birthdays during the summer, while 23 percent have their birthdays in the fall. If 12 percent, or 60 students, have their birthdays in the spring, how many of the students have their birthdays during the winter?

A. 18

B. 30

C. 150

D. 180

E. 240

12% represents 60

So, 1% represents 5

Hence no of students having birthdays in winter is ( 100 - 35 - 23 - 12 )*5 = 150 , Answer must be (C)

Let n = the total number of students. We can create the equation:

0.12n = 60

n = 60/0.12 = 6000/12 = 500

Since 100 - 35 - 23 - 12 = 30 percent of the students have their birthdays in winter, the number of students who have their birthdays in winter is 0.30 x 500 = 150.
