Hello Experts,
I have started for the GMAT preparation just a week back. My target score is 760. I have given my first mock test yesterday and it kind of shattered my strength. I was confident that Quant would be my strongest section. But I got an average score in the Quant. I just got 11 questions out of the total 24 PS questions. I was thinking to devote more time on Verbal and thought Quant would be a cake-walk for me. But the mock test was an eye-opener.It panicked me absolutely. The stress was too much on me I literally threw up today morning and is down with fever and body ache. I am pretty good at handling stress , but the yesterday's test kind of broke me down. Its just that I am not able to understand If I can reach 760. Would that be realistic? Is that a SMART goal. Am i being presumptuos?
I am mom to a 2-year old toddler , hence have a time crunch juggling work and home. I could devote a maximum of 2 hrs on weekday and 4-5 hrs on weekends. With being weak in both Quant and verbal , how could I prepare for my target score with 3 months ? I am not looking for a study plan or as such. But a concrete advice on getting 760 when you are starting from zero.
Thanks ,
Arsh
Hi Arsh,
For GMAT preparation, you need to build the concepts/fundamentals before you jump in solving the problems. You can do so by choosing one of the following ways:
1. In person classes/private tutoring
2. Online classes
3. Self paced online preparatory course
4. Book heavy approach
Whatever you choose, make sure that you choose one. Because GMAT tests you on some concepts and fundamentals that you can learn from a course. Most of the preparatory companies including ours offer a free trial of our course. You can take the trial and see if the course suits your needs.
In addition to the preparatory material, buy the Official Guides(both
the Official Guide and the Verbal Review), Question Pack 1 and the 4 official mock CATs. They should be an indispensable part of your preparation.
You need close to 3 months to prepare well for the GMAT.
1. Understand the concepts and fundamentals before jumping into problem solving
2. Solve full length CATs including AWA and IR. You can get two free GMAT Prep mock CATs and can purchase two more from mba.com
3. Make sure you solve the official questions from
the Official Guide
