(A) Because surveys revealed that the airline merger had confused public perceptions of the two brands - Correct.

(B) Because of confused public perceptions of the two brands, which had been revealed by surveys to be due to the airline merger, - Incorrect. Illogical and usage of 'which' is incorrect.

(C) Because public perceptions of the two brands from the airline merger have been confused, as revealed by a survey, - Incorrect. Change in Meaning.

(D) Due to confused public perceptions of the two brands from the airline merger, per a survey, - Incorrect. Awkward.

(E) Due to the airline merger, with the result that surveys revealed the airline merger had confused public perceptions, - Incorrect. Awkward.

Answer: A

Creating a filter: choice (A) sounds good, so we can move to eliminate the other answer choices. Finding objective defects: choice (C) uses passive voice without need. Choices (B), (D), (E) all use "because of" and "due to." The phrases "because of" and "due to" both end with prepositions, so they properly introduce single nouns, not clauses. And we are dealing with a full clause here. The correct answer is (A).

The red faced portion is incorrect. Anyone, any thoughts?
