brainhurt - cud u pls update my gpa in the spreadsheet pls? nt tht imp really,,leave it upto u...i had a first class which as per the columbia site equated to a 4.0 which i used in their online app..but since i knew it was unrealistic for it to be a 4.0, i put a 3.0 in the spreadsheet form (i knw i knw,,,no logic whatsoever!)

I changed it to 3.8

In the application section it asks how we will be funding our MBA. I have some savings, but will probably be loaning most of the funds. That being said, I haven't applied or been approved for any loans, federal or otherwise. Is it OK to say we're going to be borrowing $X to fund CBS even if we haven't been extended credit yet?

Moss - I just left the borrowing piece blank.

I always knew how expensive this MBA would be, but yesterday I almost had a heart attack after doing some planning and realizing how much I will be buried in debt after school. I need to focus on financial aid from now until next August.

If you do want to include the info (I did), I think it's fine to say you're going to borrow $X even if you haven't been extended credit. I'm not sure how it works in the US, but I'm guessing you have to be admitted somewhere before you can be granted student loans, no?

I think that section is meant to show that you're aware of how much bschool costs -- they don't verify what you've written.

it's just to show that you have a reasonable expectation of how much it costs and that you understand that it's a considerable investment. It's a way for them to manage yield...people get in...figure out it's damn expensive and reneg.

As a j-termer, I hope to hear back from cbs asap. Next week I gotta renew my lease to my apt and it will be a serious hassle to find a sublet for my apt if cbs accepts me.

Advanced ED Strategy Discussion:

Ok so CBS asks you to upload your unofficial GMAT score report. I'm not sure what they see on the official one GMAC sends them, but on my unofficial, I can see which schools I had GMAC send my score report to. My thoughts are that the reason why they ask for the unofficial might be so that they can catch a glimpse as to what other schools you're apply to. We already know they commonly ask this in interviews.

I have the option of either submitting the full unofficial score report, or just sending the only piece of it that's important to CBS, the first page, to them. One will show my schools the other won't. So, what is the best strategy? If you have a list of super strong schools (H/S/W/M/Booth) that Columbia is often in competition with, then they might be more inclined to give you an admit ED knowing that this might allow them to "steal" you from one of those schools. Then again, if they see super strong schools and generally think you'll be getting in one of them, they may just waitlist you or something to see if you w/d your app and will only admit you in a later round to manage their yield.

What are your thoughts, GMATClub?

You should just upload the first page, don't overanalyze.
