How has your time at Emory been? Have you begun the internship search process?
My biggest question regarding Goizueta revolves around the opportunity for finance concentrated students to gain placement in NYC. I know a decent contingent of undergrads that work in NYC, and it seems as if the b-school is making an effort to expand its footprint in NYC with networking events, but I wonder is Guizueta a target or semi-target for many big firms in NYC. Do you happen to have any insight into this?
A lot depends on what type of work you're doing now. The internship process is going very strong right now.
Emory places pretty well in NY for banking. We're on JPMorgan's core list this year. We're not on any other core lists, but it doesn't seem to be an issue. We have alumni at virtually every major ibank, and they do a lot to try and get current students offers. In November, there's a trek to NY where we visited these banks , met our alums, and really ramped up efforts in the internship search. First round interviews for banking are taking place later this week in NYC, final rounds will be later this month I believe.
For sales and trading, we're not on any lists (except maybe SunTrust in ATL). The recruiting process is much more challenging, but certainly not impossible (depending on your background).
I could go into more detail about my own internship search process in finance via PM if you're interested, but the honest answer is that the internship search has been better than I expected it to be going in.
