Hi, can any one please guide where I can find IESE questions related to recommendation letters. I'm going to apply for R2. Can anyone give some tips on how to get best recommendation letters?
Sent from my SM-G965F using
GMAT Club Forum mobile appsorry for the delay in getting a reply to you. I've been travelling.
I'll let you in on how I did it.
Clearly you already found the questions.
Under normal expectations you would submit your recommenders emails they would get the questions and then they submit their answers, and you are none the wiser.
that's what I did last year.
This year I did it slightly different:
after reaching out and verifying they were willing to write my recommendation letters (find people that really support your journey, not just someone who grudgingly agrees to write you a letter, it will show in the writing), I then proceeded to write a 3-4 page email, introducing them to the school, it's values, the classes, the electives, what my currently planned career path was, and which electives i was interested in.
nothing wrong with doing that. they could have gone on the website of the school and found all of that, but, they're doing me a favour so I want to save them time.
I also looked at my application and what parts of my application were weakest. In that same email, i stated that clearly I was not going to tell them what to write, but I would appreciate it if they could focus on those lesser addressed parts.
In the case of my recommenders, they 1 of them sent me the letter prior to submitting, asking me if it was ok, and telling me i could rewrite parts of it if I wanted to.
I immediately wrote back telling him no offense, but I would not do that, as it wouldn't be a fair thing to do, (seriously do not write your own letters, it will get noticed). What I did point out, is that he forgot to address a part of the second question. He then proceeded to submit the letter (I guess he wrote about that part of the second question before doing so, I don't know)
in short:
- prep your recommenders
- guide them where needed
- do not write the letters yourself
- take recommenders that are your champion
- be sure you and your recommenders have a clear view of your application and what you're already saying and not saying.
best of luck
