Not really... usually a ~30 min discussion.. 10-15 mins on extempore and then personal interview

Like always
They are stress testing
They are trivializing
They are calling you glorified less skilled worker
They are laughing at your responses

So, Just be you... 😅👍

1. Take a momentary pause before answering. Don't rush
2. Control the pace even if curveballs are thrown
3. For extempore give your arguments but don't keep up the fight if you don't have any more substance say somwthing like " i understand your point, and I agree that it introduces an important consideration that I had not sufficiently accounted for. While my original position was based on X, I would be open to revising my stance given this perspective."
4. Sit firm and wear a smile
5. You are here because they saw potential now believe in yourself.

On the point of extempore, majority of you WILL be asked to pick chits from the bowl for extempore. But do note there HAVE been instances in previous years as well when the candidates weren't asked to do an extempore. So don't panic or think too much about it.

It is just one of the many ways in which the panel is assessing your thinking ability during the interview. So having or not having it is actually something which the panel decides on the spot before calling in the candidate and also how conversational the beginning is for them.

Strategy concepts from profile typically are asked on basis of what you've submitted in your resume

So for eg, if you are from M&A background, they might ask you to explain synergies, buy vs build, valuation etc in simple terms. They can probe on it too.

Haha, the old toffee tradition stories begin again this year at IIMA :D

Extempore:Should India maintain strategic neutrality or be part of global blocs?

Discussed the topic for around 10 minutes, followed by about 12 minutes on my profile.

Since I’m currently working in the food-tech industry, they asked:

1. Is Tukaram doing the right thing?
2. Why do we need people like Tukaram? Why isn’t the food industry itself following the required norms?
3. What can be done to improve the situation?
4. Customer funnel — acquisition and retention strategies.
5. How do you maintain P&L?
6. Detailed questions about my current role, responsibilities and the business I handle.
7. Finally, they asked if I had any questions for them.

At the end, they offered me a toffee 😄

Overall, it was quite mixed. They kept challenging my answers and trying to prove me wrong, so I would say take a clear stance and be prepared to defend it with logic rather than changing your position under pressure.

Take clear stance

And DON’T change it...

that should be constant at large ...

Therefore take stance carefully ...
