Hello everyone, I’m new to the GMAT world. Despite having over 7 years of experience in HR, I’m finding it a bit repetitive and dull at the moment. I’m considering a transition into Business Analytics. I’ve completed my IIM PGP and am wondering if pursuing the EPGP would be a good step to kickstart my new career from the ground up. What are your thoughts on this?

Let me rephrase :Hello everyone, I’m at a career crossroad trying to explore a new path in my career after more than 7 years in HR. I find my current role a bit repetitive and am considering a transition into Business Analytics. I completed a PGP from an older IIM before gaining my 7+ years of work experience. Now, I’m contemplating pursuing the EPGP (essentially a second PGP) to kickstart my new career in Business Analytics. What are your thoughts on this transition?Have you seen anyone from an IIM pursue a second MBA from IIM, and do you think it would be beneficial for me? Your insights would be greatly appreciated as I navigate this decision.

Hello SS3511,

Thanks for writing in.

Not too many who have completed an MBA from IIM go for a second one at another IIM again; however, one's needs are unique and so long as you understand what your needs are, there is no right or wrong.

IIM graduates generally contemplate a second MBA for international exposure; there are plenty of Business Analytics programs that you may consider (in case you are willing to step out of the country); these will not only give you the exposure you need but also subject matter expertise; however, if you wish to stay in India itself, you may not have enough options barring the 1-year programs you are already considering.

However you proceed, the reasons for pursuing Business Analytics will need to be more than just stagnation; thus, for the purpose of a compelling application, you will need to deiberate further on this aspect.

All the best!

RaGo88, acads are fine (about average). Workex demonstrates leadership and growth over the past 12 years. Extracurricular are weak. Hence, for the likes of ISB specifically, the GMAT needs to be in the higher than average range. Also, won’t recommend applying to IIMB as they in-general don’t prefer candidates with 10-11+ years of experience.
At this point, IIMA & C (need to have a solid interview) and L are your best bets. Happy to have a detailed chat in case you have further questions.

Cheers,

RaGo88  I agree with Manan. You will have to work to improve your GMAT to stand a good chance at ISB or IIM A. I am most optimistic about IIM C and IIM L. In the last cycle I worked with someone from cyber security applications(got into IIM A and ISB) and systems architecture design (someone with 14+ years of experience with a 680 who got into IIM C and L). Happy to share their stories should you need to get your profile evaluated further.
Feel free to speak
