Work Exp: 8+ in IT

Any idea given the above current profile, where do I stand in terms of getting into IIM C? Also, what else can I do to increase my chances?

Hi everyone! Looking for a quick profile evaluation for the 2027 MBA intake.

- 28M, Indian
- GMAT Focus Mock score so far: 695 (Q88, V84, DI81)
- B.Com (2018, Private university), CGPA: 6.55/10.
- Strong school academics: 10 CGPA (Class 10), 95.4% (Class 12); cleared CA IPCC Group I and CS Executive.

Work Experience (~9 years by matriculation)

- Faculty across leading test-prep companies (CAT/GMAT/Law), teaching 5,000+ students and mentoring 2,000+.
- Started my own education venture in 2023.
- Since formal registration (2024): ₹1.1 Cr+ documented revenue and ₹50L cumulative net profit with a lean team (max 4 people).
- Experience spans teaching, sales, business development, operations, and partnerships.

Post-MBA Goals
Short term: Management Consulting / Strategy / Growth (preferably Education, EdTech, or Consumer).
Long term: Build a scalable and affordable education company.

Target Schools
Globally recognized Top-40 MBA programs with strong consulting placements. Scholarships are a major consideration.

Hi,

If you score close to your mock performance (around 695) on the GMAT Focus, you would be a strong candidate for most one-year MBA programs in India, including IIMA PGPX, IIMB EPGP, ISB PGP, and IIMC MBAEx. Given your background, a growth role at an EdTech company appears to be the most logical next career move.

IIMC does not offer institute-funded merit scholarships, but IIMA, IIMB, and ISB have merit-based scholarship opportunities. You would also have several strong overseas MBA options, with the final shortlist depending largely on your preferred geography and post-MBA career goals.

There are no 655 in classic as all classic scores are multiples of 10 while all focus scores are odd multiples of 5 It’s because they haven’t opened it yet. It will soon open. Probably some IT changes are going on in their admission form this year. I am planning to score give exam by oct first week. Below are my questions 
1. How much GMAT score I should target.
2. What profile tweaks I should do.
3. How to make sure that I can pitch transition from edtech to FMCG.

Would be helpful if anyone evaluates .

Recently so many people who have experience of Byjus have come for profile review. 😅

Your academic is fine (but comparatively I won’t call them very bright) so to make up for it, it’s important that your target score remains 665 on least side for ISB and 645 for IIMC

You work experience seems alright but a detailed discussion might clear the air on it. There isn’t much information to see the depth and your impact yet. However, a growing startup offers good challenges and I am sure you would have some stories to bring to life in SOP/Essays.

Your recent experience seems the strongest avenue for you however you must be careful in framing your short goal as you would be moving on from a growing business.

Overall, a gmat score in excess of 645 will start giving you many decent options (ISB and IIMs) in India

Your academics are average, so a strong GMAT Focus score will help balance your profile—I’d recommend targeting 655+ to remain competitive. In your application, quantify your impact through metrics such as revenue growth, market expansion, team size, P&L ownership, and operational improvements.

A transition back to FMCG may be challenging because MBA recruiters typically look for some continuity in either your industry experience or functional expertise.

With around 10 years of work experience, you should consider IIMA/B/C/L as they are generally a better fit for candidates with your level of experience

P.S. Its not official information as it has come from one of the IIMC MBAEx student of current batch

the information that has come to light is that IIMC is working on its application platform to upgrade it which is causing delay in deadlines.

Target a score of 655+ to be on safe side. As far as transition from FMCG to Ed-Tech is concerned, focus on highlighting your role across these sectors - especially on how you evolved as an individual and how you helped fulfill your business/org objectives.

Core committe member for At VIT Vellore, 5th Pillar is a prominent socio-political, anti-corruption non-profit student club, Art and design club, Music club.
