I’m not sure if it would provide a substantial add-on. Maybe the alum would be able to speak about how he sees some of your strengths play out to your/the cohort’s benefit through the course of your time at ISB in some more specificity. That can potentially be an advantage. However, in most cases, a recommender who knows you well and can detail out your strengths and weakness effectively should do the job.

How does the changes in essays affect the addmission process?
Unfortunately, I would be unable to answer that question. You would have to ask the admissions team.

Hi! Can I get a letter of recommendation from a friend working in a PSU?

I’m working in the same organisation since 4 years, so I will get 1 LOR from my boss but I’m clueless regarding where should I get the other LOR from.

From what I understand, the LoR should be sourced from someone who has worked with you and knows you from a professional setting. If you worked with your friend in the recent past (I’m assuming you dont work together now), I don’t see a reason as to why you can’t source it from him. I don’t think it would be wise if the parameters for his selection are that he is your friend and that he works in a PSU

Unless the process has changed this year, you would need only 1 LoR

Do check the application requirements thoroughly once the portal goes live. I understand that there has been a change in the essays.

Hey Vashisht, could you talk more about YLP? What are some things that candidates should focus on improving for YLP stage 2 and for the interview round, how should one prepare?

Hey unfortunately, I don’t understand how the YLP route works. I applied directly through the PGP route. Would not want to mislead you with potentially incorrect information. Maybe you can reach out to some of our admission consultants on the forum/alums/current students who got in through the YLP route for better guidance

YLP is for those who are either still in college or who have less than 2 years of work experience. ISB promises them admission after a rigourous admission process . However, such candidates must complete atleast 2 years in professional field to be eligible to start their PGP course.

For more information you can directly connect with the ISB team via e-mail.

Hope that helps !!

Hi, just joined this group. I plan to apply to ISB this year. I have 3 years of work ex and I’ve worked in 2 startups. Just wanted to know if there is a preference that ISB has for students coming from bigger MNCs vs startup background?

Not an ISB expert at all.... but generally for most schools and I think for Recruiting as well, it is better to have a strong brand name rather than a small company because nobody knows what SmartTrapxyz is but everyone knows IBM or Coke or Goldman, so strong brands always win (even though you have to work a lot harder in startups). The only time Startup wins is if you make a lot of money or have a very major role and have contracts with Coke, Goldman, or IBM... so brands always trump in Recruiting and Admissions.

Having a bigger MNC name on your resume helps as it usually provides more like a sanity check (validation) for the Bschool on the credibility of the candidate. Having said, if you are able to show genuine motivation behind joining the startups and demonstrate solid quantifiable impact/ non-linear career progression in your experience, start-up experiences should still work. Hope this is useful.
