Hey wonderful people!

I know this is funny, but should I even apply to ISB with a gmat FE score of 395 (This was my first attempt and I don't know what to feel about it. Please don't judge me)

I have a more than decent academic history and I come from a creative background and have a work-ex of around 3 years. Tbh the profile is not an issue for me but the scores are trash.

Thoughts?

Hey!

I don’t think you should apply with that score. In my batch, the lowest score was around 600 (±10), so honestly, your chances with this score are quite low. Additionally, if you apply now and are not successful, you’ll be considered a reapplicant next time, which can complicate things.

A better course of action would be to retake the GMAT and aim for a higher score, then apply in either Round 2 or Round 3.

Feel free to reach out if you’d like to discuss your options further.

Best regards,

shisingh - the undergrad GPA and Amex brand are good angles.

Your work-ex (2 years) is a bit on the lower side. Would like to understand your role and key achievements at Amex, and your post-MBA goals.

A strong GMAT (ideally 675+ GFE) can help strengthen the case.

Also aim to have robust essays covering your journey and motivations, but at this point, GMAT should be your priority.

Hi Wonderful People,

I plan to apply to ISB this year, but it seems like I would not make it to R1. I have yet to take my GMAT, and I am still prepping for a strong score (upwards of 695+)

Profile:
5 YoE
Grad from IIT Kanpur
CGPA: 7.43
12th: 92%
10th: 94%

Few questions below
  1. What score should I target to be absolutely sure to get it? (or also consider M7/ T15)
  2. What do you suggest which of the remaining rounds would be best to target at ?
  3. Is it true that the admission /committee gives equal weightage irrespective of the round a person applies to?
  4. What timelines should I look at have an
    1. Official GMAT score
    2. Essays written & proof read
Many thanks to all who can guide here with any feedback or advise. Hope to give back to community in the future!

Cheers!

Hey,1. 695+ is a score which will be right there in top pool.

Anything above 665 is worth taking shot considering your ACADS, R1 is considered best (With so called less prepared applicant pool (Personally, I don’t see much diff), R1 things move quite fast except you end up in waiting list then you might wait till as long as 5 months to hear your final result) . Weightage per component is a black box thing (GMAT is just 30-40% as per talks/rumors). Timelines are flexible as per your experience with MBA applications. All the best!!

Hey, shisingh

Given your academic background and achievements, aiming for a GMAT score of 675+ will boost your application. Although your work experience is on the lower side, gaining additional experience will be a plus. While scholarships are available in Round 2, applying earlier might increase your odds. Focus on preparing for the GMAT to reach your target score and
strengthen your profile for ISB.

For the US programs, the university should send the transcripts directly without your hands touching them... I assume ISB does something along these lines? :-o ?
