Hey there,

Your unique startup experience will certainly add weight to your profile. Tier 1 CSE should also help. However, you should definitely reconsider GMAT, it is slightly below median and you are an engineer, it might play against you.

Dear @sallyedu,

Academics: Above Average

GMAT: Average

Work Experience: Above Average; The transition from Software Development to Starting up and now why an urge to do MBA needs to be logically explained in the application. Ad coms will be very interested to understand your rationale of leaving your startup after just 1 year and exploring another career via MBA. You will need to explain WHY and in WHAT Context did you feel the need to pursue management education and your plans post the course – will you come back to startup? / do something else?
While in the 2 years at Samsung you might not have got a lot of opportunity to lead groups of people, you should definitely highlight leadership traits – ex. building a core team, multi tasking b/w product dev/marketing/capital management etc. in your own company. Also call out how this experience has made you comfortable working with and getting work done from a heterogeneous group vs a homogenous group of people you were working with in your prior role.

Extracurricular: Average; ECs which you have continued even until now have the most impact. Anything that is dated has a diluted impact. However, you can definitely talk about some of the transferrable skills that you leveraged as head of marketing club during undergrad to form and lead teams in your startup.

Overall, I feel you stand a good chance of getting shortlisted for the Interview and eventually making the cut if you demonstrate humility, logical reasoning and adaptability as the key strengths of your profile.

I am an ISB alum,CO15, and have been mentoring applicants crack their dream MBA programs for last 8 years. Feel free to get in touch if you seek professional assistance wrt application.

Cheers and wishing you all the very best !

Your credentials are quite decent. However it will eventually boil down to the need to do an MBA , and why ISB? Though the essays this year don't ask that particularly, but it will be the basis of your application and can easily unravel in the interview
