Planning to apply to ISB PGP and would appreciate honest feedback on my profile.

• 10th: 9.8 CGPA
• 12th: 96.8%
• B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University (DSNLU): 8.7 CGPA

*Work Experience (~3.3 years):*
• Campus placed at HDFC Bank and worked as a Legal Officer for 2 years.
• Currently working at Kotak Mahindra Bank as a Legal Officer/Manager for the past 1.3 years.
• My work involves legal due diligence, high-value lending transactions, project approvals, litigation management, documentation, and coordination with multiple stakeholders across business, credit, risk, and operations teams.

Academic: Good
Undergraduation: Amazing for Diversity
Work Experience: Very good and diverse
Legal officer work is pretty respectable fo the class of MBA

Extra Curriculars: Again you have aced this part as well.

1) Target GMAT Score: 645 or more
2) Strong Profile
3) I will recommend when you have given the minimum desired GMAT score and if it comes to it then apply in R3 with whatever score you have in hands
4) No Red flags so far

female lawyer in banking is an advantage over engineers.

However, 2 things to note. You'll be up against candidates with 4 to 6 years and more direct ownership, so your work has to punch above your tenure. Second, your function reads as support role, not P&L.

Also, Adcom will press hard on why a lawyer needs an MBA now, and That story has to come from what you've seen from the legal seat that you want to go fix.

GMAT Focus: target 675.

Don't apply early just to apply early. Apply when you are ready and don't rush.

Good academics overall; diversity can be a positive point if positioned and articulated well.

Please spend some time refining your post-MBA goals. Post-MBA, you can realistically target roles in Corporate Banking, especially Relationship Management or Coverage roles, given your strong understanding of lending, documentation, and client coordination.

A GMAT score of 655+ should typically be sufficient to secure an interview. You can apply whenever you feel ready—whether in Round 1 or Round 2—there’s no need to rush your applications.

Hi I would request for a profile evaluation:
Female candidate

Graduation BTech in Csit with 65% ,10th std is 8.8/10 CGPA & 12th is 67% MSc (with merit) in AIML (distance learning) from LJMU (done along side work).

Current work experience ~7yrs in tech domain.
Worked in an MNC for 6 yrs - started in infra domain, worked on client facing project, lead team, worked on multi domains specializing in data protection, disaster recovery, and cloud environments.
my responsibilities expanded beyond operational execution into planning and delivering larger transformation initiatives. Led end-to-end data migration across multi sites without disruption, built automation solutions that improved operational efficiency and reduced costs, and managed multiple parallel projects while working closely with clients and internal stakeholders.

My work has been recognized and appreciated both internally and by client through promotions and my early selection into my organization’s Principal Engineer (Full Stack Engineering) program, a highly selective initiative designed to develop top engineering talent across technology domains.

Now transitioned into my current role as an AI Engineer, working on solving real-world business challenges. - working in MNC (~1 yr)

Extra Curriculars - hobbies - was active in sports during school like basketball, swimming

This actually looks like a pretty strong ISB profile.

Great academics, female diversity, law background, and experience at HDFC + Kotak gives you a nice differentiated story compared to the usual engineer applicants.
For GMAT, I'd target 685+. If you get 705+, you'll be in a very comfortable spot.

I'd rate the profile around 8/10 right now, with the GMAT being the biggest missing piece.

No major red flags honestly. The only thing I'd focus on in essays is showing impact and leadership, not just legal responsibilities. ISB will want to see how you've influenced decisions, managed stakeholders, and driven outcomes.

And if your GMAT is ready in time, I'd always lean R1 over R2. No reason to give up an earlier shot with a profile like this.

Overall, this feels like someone who should be targeting an interview, not wondering whether they're competitive. 👍

You've got a solid profile overall. The academics are definitely a strength, and the FinTech background is relevant for the goals you're targeting.

What stands out to me:
  • 9.2 CGPA + strong school academics
  • Client-facing experience instead of purely backend tech work
  • Best Trainer Award (shows leadership/influence)
  • The 10k+ Instagram community is actually more interesting than most applicants realize if you've genuinely built it yourself
The biggest challenge is that your work experience sounds a bit execution-heavy on paper right now. You'll need to show ownership, impact, leadership, and not just development work.

For GMAT, I'd aim for 685+. At 705+, I'd feel very good about ISB.

For ISB, I'd say you're definitely competitive if you execute the application well. Similar programs I'd look at are INSEAD, HEC Paris, Cambridge Judge Business School, and Oxford Saïd Business School if you're open to studying abroad.

Target score should be 675 specially because you undergrad score isn’t very impressive
ISB and IIM A|B|C are best options provided you score hits the range minimum 645 but 675 will make your journey more confident.

Be ready with an appealing goal where you can bring your transferable skills to benefit the class and achieve your goal.

But one step at a time: Get a good GMAT if possible

You have strong profile and academic but your 3 years of experience doesn’t allow many good 1-year MBA options in India yet except ISB

I would say, just focus on ISB in India at the moment and since your experience is below average of the class, and you come from engineering background, target a score 675 (I know it’s easier to give the target but unfortunately a lower score than 675 might jeopardise your chances at ISB admission)

*Education:
1. B.Com - 8
2. 12th - 9.4
3. 10th - 8.9
* Work Experience: ~3 years in UK Corporate Tax
* ~2.5+ years at KPMG
* Recently moved to GT (Grant Thornton), currently ~2 months in
* Current Role: Consultant (previously Senior Associate at KPMG)
* Experience: UK corporate tax compliance, CT600s, tax computations, client coordination with UK teams, mentoring/review exposure at KPMG, currently building exposure at GT.
* International Exposure: Worked extensively with UK stakeholders and have built a decent professional network in the UK

did you get this experience in UK corporate tax on-site?

If you have on-site work experience then it would make significant different in your profile strength.

Without onsite-experience also, your profile looks decent and really good fit for the school (ISB)

Yes your profile also permits to consider a few really good international options like HEC, INSEAD, LBS, NUS... some of which can be ambitious but are they possible? Definitely YES

A lot will depend on your GMAT score from here on...

so target to go beyond 675 to make all these dreams come REAL POSSIBILITIES 🙂

P.S. GMAT prep ideally takes about 3 months... any more delay might work against you in two potential ways
1) Missing early rounds
2) Sub-optimal GMAT scores (if you reach your peak in 3 months)

• Multiple NCFM certifications

Work experience so far:

Allianz Partners (Jan 2023 – Sept 2023) -( 8 months )
Worked as a Sales Associate in travel insurance operations. Consistently maintained 98%+ quality scores, handled customer escalations, cross-selling, upselling and received recognition for performance. Licensed in 3 Canadian provinces.

MAAC (Oct 2023 – May 2025)
Completed an Advanced Program in Digital Media Creation covering Graphic Design, 3D Modelling, Product Visualization, UI/UX and related creative disciplines.

Family Business (May 2025 – Present) ( over 1 year)
Joined my father’s catering and hospitality business and currently work across three family-run establishments. My responsibilities include:

* Designing client-facing assets and branding materials
* Managing social media strategy
* Facilitating communication with NRI clients

aparnaaeri Honestly, in you any good MBA/PGP program will see someone who is young and still trying to find footing, but also someone who has spent almost two years after undergrad exploring different paths without yet showing a clear sense of direction. If you want to establish a studio, for which you completed an almost 20-month diploma, that does not demonstrate a strong inclination toward investing in your full-time career outside of freelance work. I am not saying this is not right for you, but rather that it will look like a very unconventional and somewhat confused path to the MBA adcom evaluators.
The family business experience seems to be ops-heavy, but say if you want to highlight the marketing aspect of it more than anything else, then that is not necessarily the right direction when asking for an ISB-level MBA. And if you pitch more of your business management or operations-handling experience, then the digital media focus does not fit well either (it wont appeal to the MBA recruiters at ISB either). See if you are genuinely interested in marketing/revenue/business growth-focused roles, and while there is still time, try to showcase your potential by securing some really good pre-MBA opportunities. Good startups in a steep growth phase or the established ones where marketing or sales is core can be some of the best places to do this. Startups also have unstructured hiring so they can take a chance with you. Also, with AI moving as quickly as it is, creative skills will still matter, but increasingly the premium may go to people who can combine creativity with business judgment, analytics, strategy, and decision-making. If I were in your position, I would look for opportunities that move me closer to those kinds of responsibilities.

You seem to be playing within your comfort zone, but only by getting out of it will you prove your potential to ISB. As I say, you need a steep takeoff point in your career, but you also need to stick with that high-impact role for a while before you apply.
This will hold true even if you get a super-high GMAT score.

Profile looks fine on academic achievement and extra curriculars but the move from corporate to Family business needs to be justified in such a way that the admission committee finds it appealing to give you a chance at MBA because it would be your much needed impetus than just stepping stone to get in corporate work again.
You have some time to give a meaningful direction to you current work so that your move for an MBA is justified.

ISB will see it how you will show them it to be. This is not a coherent transition so you must work on showing this transition a thoughtful transition.

Thank you for the candid feedback. I truly appreciate it. I think I may not have articulated my journey clearly in the original post.

From my perspective, there has only been one major transition — from a traditional commerce/sales track to the creative domain.

Post graduation in commerce, I joined Allianz in a customer-facing sales role. Thereafter, I consciously chose to invest in learning design, 3D visualization and motion graphics, as I found myself increasingly drawn towards branding, visual communication and customer engagement. And this was under one big course, rather than a combination of multiple courses.


Since then, I have been applying those skills in my father’s business through branding, social media, client-facing assets and customer interactions.

Due to personal circumstances, I do not intend to continue in the family business long term. My current plan is to move into a professional 3D/design role and simultaneously build freelance experience in product visualization as this was also one of the areas my course covered and isn’t easily replaceable by AI - needing ample amount of technical skill.

Given this context, would you still view my profile as lacking direction, or would you consider it a coherent transition from commerce/sales into the creative industry?

I would genuinely appreciate your thoughts, as I am trying to determine whether I should apply in the next cycle or spend another 1-2 years building depth in the creative industry before targeting ISB.

I acknowledge that my post-MBA goals are still evolving. Brand Management was initially an area of interest because it seemed to combine business, consumer understanding and creative communication. And I did explore sales and design to build in brand management. Being young, this was the direction I was steered in by my seniors.

However, at this stage, I am more focused on building depth and credibility within the creative industry before determining the most suitable long-term path. Won’t getting into sales or any other domain after exploring design be an another switch?
