FROM Kellogg MBA Blog: Why every woman’s first job should be her hardest

Originally posted on Fortune:

MPW Insider is one of several online communities where the biggest names in business answer timely career and leadership questions. Today’s answer for: How can women rise to the C-suite? is written by Sally Blount, Dean of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Here’s the good news: Women are now a dominant force in higher education. Nearly 60% of students entering our nation’s top universities are women, according to a recent report by NBC News. And, once there, they graduate at higher rates and tend to perform better in the classroom than men.

Now the not-so-good news: Despite their success in school, women still aren’t getting to the top in the workplace. According to research from Catalyst, only 4.8% of this year’s Fortune 500 companies are led by female CEOs and only 17% of directors of U.S. companies are female. And, these ratios represent an all-time high.

Anyone who applied/dinged to other schools know what the link URL looks like for decisions (for the app system).

Hahaha the levels of speculation here is amusing.

Everytime I or my friends have written to them with an update about our application (post submission), the date changes. In their own words "we have added this update to your application."

"Everytime"? What are you and your friends constantly submitting??

Not submitting constantly, that would be stupid and would annoy adcom. couple of my friends got promoted, which was an important development. I had forgot an imp detail on application form. stuff like that.

Same here but 11/17. I'm hoping they were just like "YES! IN! done."

Ah if someone like you did not have a date change, I do agree with the sentiment above that date changes = borderline candidates.

Mine says 11/11/2014. Doesn't look a positive sign!

Mine is 11/11 to. Which makes sense because that is right after I interviewed. This wait is driving me crazy!

Still at 11/08 here, exactly a month since the last time my application was accessed.

I interviewed on October 14th in Evanston, bunch of date changes in two weeks and an abrupt stop. The fact that they came into the office on a Saturday, more than a month before the deadline, had me raising my eyebrows.

A part of me thinks that three weeks is too short a time to decide an admit, especially with the interviews still going. With that said, Anderson sent out interview invites 3 days after the application deadline, and Duke is handing out decisions 10 days after interview period wraps up - so who really knows at this point.

I really need to start on my Christmas shopping..

I believe mine was 11/4 until this past weekend. I am hoping this is a good sign that it was updated after such a long gap.

Mine is also 12/5 kelloggcookiemonster! And it only changed once... before that it was right next to my interview date!

Getting quite nervous over here! Does anyone know how exactly they will let us know? (phone, email, status update?)
