It's interesting to see that a lot of Kellogg applicants also applied to Duke. They definitely draw the same crowd.

Of GMAT Club people the overlap with Duke is tied for 5th. Booth has the most overlap with Kellogg.

So here's my explanation after rereading the thread and piecing the data together with info I've gathered from friends and colleagues who work in college admissions:

A Video Essay date change seems to occur each time a profile is accessed (I don't like the pool theory). This is a glitch in the system. We know there is also automated access since people report changes en masse at 8:15 every morning. Once an application is in the ding pile, there's no reason for an adcomm to look at it ever again. On the other hand, data from the admit pile (but not waitlist) would need be collected. A former adcomm I know explained that statistics for admitted students are updated on a daily basis, since these figures feed directly into the school's ratings. That means that every adcomm has in front of them an average GMAT, average GPA, % women, etc. for their accepted students pile as it stands, and this is recalculated everyday as new applicants are added to the pile. That data is crucial.

So what does the mean for us?

1. Everyone who applied will see a December date change as rejection and accepted updates are added to your application. Those who haven't should see one soon.

2. People with a daily date changes can assume they've been added to the list of admitted students. Applicants in the accepted pile have their data mined frequently, and their video essay date will change each time.

If there are waiver applicants with daily date changes, please chime in, since that would disprove my theory. But I think this will be confirmed next week.

I like this theory! Unfortunately, I'm one of the waived candidates who has seen daily date changes.

Are you a re-applicant? If so, were you interviewed last year? It is very unlikely that someone gets an admit without some form of interview - skype or in-person.

Nope - not a re-applicant. And yes, I agree it's very unlikely to get admitted without having had a interview (especially given Kellogg's stated opinion that they are critical to the evaluation process). At this point, I think best case for waived applicants is a spot on the W/L.

I just received a raise for my promotion earlier in the year, should I report that back to admissions? Or is that unnecessary, since the promotion was already on my resume?

I would say it's unnecessary. It's a minor input to begin with, and at this point, a decision likely has been made for you already

Mine was stuck on 11/25 and then updated to 12/11 yesterday too. Is there anyone out there with a date before December? That might mean that they updated decisions on everyone's profiles besides the crew that's been changing everyday.

I honestly think the date changes are not an indicator of a/d/wl at all. Seeing as how the majority have seen daily changes over the past week, it wouldn't make sense to assume they are the accepted group, given the ~20% acceptance rate. Also, waived applicants also saw daily changes.

A much smaller number had dates that remained in October - Mid November range. I was one of them, but mine changed to 12/11. I would assume this is an indication of someone or the committee going back to review my application for final consensus.

I think the applications are just put into pools based on interviewer, submission date, or how the piles landed on someone's desk. Then they are simply reviewed again in some order, and that's why we are seeing this round of changes.

I'm seeing this daily change too, but considering all my DINGs in R1, I highly doubt that I could be a lucky one in Kellogg...
But still hope for a Miracle

Hey niceperson I don't think that's true at all! No one can really accurately say anything about the date changes as no one here is involved with the current admissions process!

This has all be pure speculation on very little data and knowledge. All I can say is to keep your head up and wait until next Friday!

I hope so, but I'm not so sure. Interviews weren't even completed by that date, which leads me to think that a definitive "Yes" decision probably wouldn't have been made so early in the process. Also, my date change is on a Saturday. Would the admissions committee really come in to the office to make decisions on the weekend two months before the deadline?

A ding from HBS or Stanford is nothing to be discouraged about. HBS has conceded that they can build as strong a class as one they admit from all of their rejections. Keep your head up and stay confident.
