Hi, Do UCLA and UC Berkeley extension school courses or HBx Core help with offsetting a low GPA in non American business school applications apart from the GMAT

Hi, Your strong GMAT score of 730 demonstrates your quantitative aptitude and ability to handle the rigor of the program. Your 8 years of work experience in risk management, asset management, and investment management at reputable organizations like Credit Suisse, Invesco, and a startup is valuable. It shows a diverse background and expertise in the financial industry. Your experience, coupled with the strong recommendation from an HBS alumnus, adds credibility to your application.

As an Indian female candidate, you bring diversity to the applicant pool, which is something that business schools often value. LBS, in particular, emphasizes diversity and seeks to build a global cohort.

Considering these factors, your chances of getting into LBS for the 2024 fall admissions appear promising. We offer a limited number of complimentary profile evaluations each week. !

Hello All, wanted to ask for any advice / assessment of the profile: Eastern European male, Doctor of Pharmacy degree, ~5 years of WE, currently working in Global HQ of a top-10 biotech companies in Pricing. Had experience working in Switzerland, speak 4 languages, candidacy in CFA, targeting GMAT of 720-750

Hello, Your Doctor of Pharmacy degree demonstrates a strong foundation in the healthcare field. While it may differ from the typical profile of an MBA applicant, it can bring a unique perspective to the classroom and contribute to discussions on the intersection of healthcare and business. Aiming for a GMAT score in the range of 720-750 is a good target, as it aligns with the average GMAT scores of admitted students at LBS.

Your five years of work experience, including your current role in the Global HQ of a top-10 biotech company in Pricing, showcase your expertise in a specialized area of the biotech industry. Working in Switzerland and having proficiency in four languages are advantageous and indicate your international exposure and cross-cultural communication skills.

Pursuing the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is a positive indicator of your commitment to finance and can strengthen your application, especially if you are seeking to transition into a finance-focused role during or after the MBA.

Overall, your profile demonstrates a strong foundation in the healthcare and biotech industry, along with international experience and language proficiency. These factors can contribute to the diversity of perspectives within the LBS MBA program.

Considering these factors, your chances of getting into LBS appear promising. We offer a limited number of complimentary profile evaluations each week.

Your GMAT is in the competitive range for LBS. If you are keen on scholarships, increasing the score by 10-20 points can greatly help. Your work experiences across reputed organizations highlight your quantitative and team-oriented skills, although I'd like to know more about your accomplishments and the impact in each role. Furthermore, make sure you have given enough thought and have strong responses to "what are your post-MBA (short term and long term) goals", "why MBA", and "why LBS". Having clarity on these is critical to crafting a strong application.

I worked with a candidate with a similar profile last year, who was admitted into LBS.

Happy to have a chat. Feel free to reach out.

Hi folks. I am planning to apply for LBS MiM’24 intake. I will complete my graduation in July. My approximate score in my UG will be 65-70% . Can someone please guide me if i stand a chance at LBS with low GPA (its mentioned 3.3 GPA or UK 2:1 is minimum requirement on their page)? Or is there any other way i can compensate for my lower GPA in my overall profile?

Shreya1211

A good GMAT score can compensate for low GPA. Also highlight quant-heavy courses (if any) where you did well in UG, and try to do a live project or internship in your post-MiM area of interest - the latter can add significant weight to your profile.

Hi Auror_07,

Your GMAT is in the competitive range for LBS, and your pedigree is strong as well (would like to know your GPA). However, if you want to increase your chances of a scholarship, increasing the GMAT score, even by 10-20 points, can help significantly. Your work experience sounds interesting: please share further details about your role, the key achievements and the impact (ideally quantified). Similar comment for your ECs. The recommendation letter from the IIMB alum can help if that person has worked with you closely for a good period of time, and can talk about your strengths, achievements and motivations for an MBA.

If you haven't already, please give enough thought and have strong responses to why MBA, why now, what are your post-MBA (short term and long term) goals, and how LBS fits in the picture. Doing research on the specific resources at LBS that can help your career trajectory is recommended.

If you would like to discuss in further detail, please feel free to schedule a profile evaluation session with me.

Hi Auror_07

Your academic record seems to hold good potential, although you did not mention your grade point average. (As someone with ~10 years of corporate experience in manufacturing and supply chain design) I find your work experience interesting and see good opportunities to describe your motivation and industry focus. Steady growth is a plus. Unpack your experience and construct your stories in a way that makes it clear that working on your projects has given you much more hands-on experience, more experiential maturity, and more ability to contextualize business problems (specific to your area of work). Craft well-researched goals. Be sure to use your unique positioning to create a strong leadership narrative.

Thoughts on 730 GMAT
I often advise applicants on this forum to look at GMAT scores with the quantitative and verbal sections individually. Admissions committees evaluate your performance along with that of your peers (from your population group) on a normalized curve. For example, a Q49 score (~75th percentile) is considered borderline for overrepresented demographic groups at top business schools. If your quantitative score is near this value or you have exceeded this threshold, the admissions committee is confident that you can handle the academically demanding curriculum.
Your verbal score is more a reflection of your ability to participate in discussions in a truly global and diverse cohort at a school like LBS.

If you say so, we trust you to have good extracurriculars :)

Overall a decent profile

Hi HrithuOlickel, good GPA and GMAT score.

Your work experiences sound interesting, however, I would like to better understand further details to assess your profile i.e. your key achievements in these roles, challenges you faced, how you overcame them, impact it had on the company(ies), and the lessons you learned. Would also like to understand your shift from Project to Product Management.

While you haven't stated it, having clear post-MBA goals: target sector, function, geography, and ideally also companies, is important to articulate your plans and how an MBA can help achieve these goals. Subsequently, identifying the specific resources (e.g. clubs, industry network, alumni, courses etc.) that LBS can provide you is equally important to have a compelling application.

Regarding recommender, was he your direct superior and/ or worked closely with you and can speak about your strengths, traits & motivations? If so, good choice.

If you would like to discuss in detail, please schedule a free session through the link below.

chakri1997, Good academics.

Please specify what your role in Microsoft was, and your key achievements there (ideally quantified). Co-founding a company would be a significant point to highlight in the application, noting down the challenges you faced, impact you had, lessons you learned, etc. and why/ how an MBA can better equip you for the future.

I would also like to understand your post MBA goals: short-term and long-term: target sector, function, geography and company (or own venture) to advise better.
