Hey Guys,
I got in touch with a current 2nd year student at Mason. Below are the questions and answers:
1) How are the Masons placements overall?
Answer: There is no concept of placement, because unlike India the college does not places students into a company. About finding jobs, its better for Americans than for international. The situation is true across colleges in US, or any other Bschool in another country.
2) How is Mason placement for Indian students?
Answer: Class graduating in May 2014 had 14 Indian students, 2 had jobs before graduation. Others eventually found jobs.
3) I heard Williamsburgh is a small city. Do we really have great companies recruiting at Mason?
Answer: Yes Williamsburg is a small city. Historic and college town. I am not sure what's your definition of great company. Fortune 500, Fortune 100, Fortune 500? Tech giants, Big4? Several known companies visit Mason but primarily for our Undergraduate and MACC program. Last year, and this year, 4 companies visited campus Deloitte, IBM, ALBA, CSX they were looking for US Citizens interested in Finance. Rest find employment by networking, online application, reaching out to alumni, and/or by visiting career fairs like National Black MBA, National Hispanic MBA etc.
4) How are living costs in Williamsburgh? Is it a good city to live in?
Answer: Its safe to budget $1000/month expenditure. I don't know your definition of good city, does it mean partying? public transportation, crime and safety, cheap or business opportunities? Williamsburg is a safe college town. Everyone knows everyone here.
5) I have got some scholarship. Is it worth matriculating at Mason?
Answer: I don't follow the question, how can anyone tell whats worth matriculating at a particular college without knowing the employment outcome? Of course we cannot predict the future, but make an informed decision from the data points we have. Do International students get Salary of $110,000 upon graduation? - Highly unlikely, there might have been 1-2 cases, but those are exception not the rule. Usuaully, international students end in the range of $65,000 - $95,000 range. A lot depend on the city, NYC e.g $65,000 is a suicide, $95,000 is okay! whereas, $95,000 in Williamsburg or Columbus, Ohio will allow you to save and lead a comfortable life.
It is better to compare MBA programs, as in - 1) How much money are you investing 2) What is the employment outcome (in avg. salary / range) and the likely hood.
