With a much better GMAT score, I can request for a higher scholarship like 50-60% may be. That would help me cut down the cost of MBA.

I agree with you there. You obviously do not lose anything by giving the exam again and extra scholarship obviously reduces the risk factor involved. I will have to agree with todice1 as well. Mason has a very strong( and as a matter of fact very old) brand name. Additionally, Virginia has excellent work opportunities because of its proximity to East coast & Washington/NY/Richmond etc . So , personally I believe its a bright option.

Thanks Lucky. I dint know that Virginia has great work opportunities. W&M has a very reputed name since its the second oldest school in US after Harvard.
But in 3 years, its ranking has fallen from 55 to 82. Thats what is concerning me. If it would have been somewhat around 50-60, I wouldnt give a second thought on joining Mason. Any idea about the Top consulting programs in US?

I have to make a decision by December 5th! Since I was looking to self-support my MBA, the Mason opportunity is really good for me. Additionally I really like their CAM and Field Consultancy Projects. I am bringing along my better half, want to stay at a place which has ample work opportunities. Though there are opportunities nearby, not sure about Williamsburg.

Same here. Even I have to make a decision by 5th Dec. Mason is definitely attractive but Williamsburg is a small place. Not sure about the jobs and employers there. Thats what I was talking about.

Close to Richmond might be your best bet, that or Virginia Beach.

Hi,

Has anyone spoken with a currently enrolled student/alumnus? How is he/she finding the school? How has the school helped him/her reach his/her goals? What are the current avg. salary packages and the % of students getting a job within 3 months of graduating? Can someone share the current stats of the school?

Thanks!

Hi supi,

I have asked the admisison guys to get me in touch with a couple of current students and they said it will take 2 weeks. I will let u know once i get any more update. No offence but you should not be asking basic questions like current avg salary packages and the % of students getting a job within 3 months of graduation. These type of answers you can get in this forum with just a 5 minute search. I know the answers to these questions but I want you to find out.
Anyways, u scored 590 and r u done with the Mason Interview? Admitted? interviewed?

Hey Lucky,

Any update? Are you planning to matriculate at Mason? Or still confused with other schools?

Hey Guys,
I got in touch with a current 2nd year student at Mason. Below are the questions and answers:

1) How are the Masons placements overall?
Answer: There is no concept of placement, because unlike India the college does not places students into a company. About finding jobs, its better for Americans than for international. The situation is true across colleges in US, or any other Bschool in another country.

2) How is Mason placement for Indian students?
Answer: Class graduating in May 2014 had 14 Indian students, 2 had jobs before graduation. Others eventually found jobs.

3) I heard Williamsburgh is a small city. Do we really have great companies recruiting at Mason?
Answer: Yes Williamsburg is a small city. Historic and college town. I am not sure what's your definition of great company. Fortune 500, Fortune 100, Fortune 500? Tech giants, Big4? Several known companies visit Mason but primarily for our Undergraduate and MACC program. Last year, and this year, 4 companies visited campus Deloitte, IBM, ALBA, CSX they were looking for US Citizens interested in Finance. Rest find employment by networking, online application, reaching out to alumni, and/or by visiting career fairs like National Black MBA, National Hispanic MBA etc.

4) How are living costs in Williamsburgh? Is it a good city to live in?
Answer: Its safe to budget $1000/month expenditure. I don't know your definition of good city, does it mean partying? public transportation, crime and safety, cheap or business opportunities? Williamsburg is a safe college town. Everyone knows everyone here.

5) I have got some scholarship. Is it worth matriculating at Mason?
Answer: I don't follow the question, how can anyone tell whats worth matriculating at a particular college without knowing the employment outcome? Of course we cannot predict the future, but make an informed decision from the data points we have. Do International students get Salary of $110,000 upon graduation? - Highly unlikely, there might have been 1-2 cases, but those are exception not the rule. Usuaully, international students end in the range of $65,000 - $95,000 range. A lot depend on the city, NYC e.g $65,000 is a suicide, $95,000 is okay! whereas, $95,000 in Williamsburg or Columbus, Ohio will allow you to save and lead a comfortable life.

It is better to compare MBA programs, as in - 1) How much money are you investing 2) What is the employment outcome (in avg. salary / range) and the likely hood.
