Just got my invite about an hour ago as well. I was floored given how I thought my GMAT quant subscore was off from Sloan's ranges. I submitted on 10/26.

I live in the Boston area.

Subject line: MIT Sloan MBA Applicant Interviews

Given that the body of the email says it is confidential in nature, I won't share that.

Good luck to everyone else! Just remember that invites can come up through the decision day.

Do you mind sharing your quant score - i have the same, scary, feeling....

43. I am planning on retaking it, because I disputed a quant question with GMAC and was successful in my dispute. GMAC/PearsonVue admitted their error and are giving me a free retake. I did not know I had won the dispute when I submitted my app.

My work experience is quite unique, though. As are my passions and what I could bring to the class in terms of diversity. I'll also only have 3 years WE by the time I matriculate.

I think the interview invites are going out in batches depending on location. At least I hope so and that's what I remember from the last year's thread. Can someone confirm? Congratulations to those who got invited!

So people around Boston should start losing hope earlier than the rest :(

If you start reading from this post (link) you might come to that conclusion.

Edit: People saying that invites are based on regional interview hubs.
Edit: Last year GC invites: first Boston invite 12/3/2010; first NYC invite 12/4/2010; first NC invite 12/8/2010 (I'm from NC)

For people on the West Coast, the first invite from last year went to theDreamChaser in Los Angeles on Wednesday, 12/16/09: calling-all-fall-2010-mit-sloan-applicants-79470-440.html#p663471

By Friday, 12/18/09, some invitations had already gone out to people in San Francisco/Silicon Valley: calling-all-fall-2010-mit-sloan-applicants-79470-460.html#p664475

Not sure about other West Coast cities like Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas, etc.

Congrats to all that received an invitation already. Good luck with the interview!

yea definitely, im in columbus (90 min south of Atlanta) at Fort Benning, I was getting a little nervous today wondering how they handle Army guys and the south in general, I hope we get some good news soon.

i am pretty sure we will need to travel up to Boston for the interview (coming from ATL) but I am not sure.

My home of record is NJ but I have no lived there since 9-11.

Hoping to get back up north.

Congrats to everyone who received invites!

When can international applicants expect to hear from Sloan? After they are done sending invites to US based applicants? Or do they send them simultaneously?

According to last years online chats:

"interviews in Asia will take place in january. intv invites will probably go out early january"
"we're still inviting people to interviews. only the very first batch have gone out. "
"intv's are only conducted by members of the adcom, we do not use alums. we invite about 25% of apps for intv's"
"of the 25% invited to intv, about 13% are ultimately offered admission"
"reapps are very successful, higher acceptance rate for reapps then regular, about 18%"

Although the 25%/13% invite/admit ratio is quite debatable :o

So this chat is likely based on the previous year's info. It's very different from what happened last year, according to MIT's own site and businessweek. It seems like last year 17% were interviewed, and 14% accepted. Also, according to businessweek, the admit rate for re-applicants was lower.

Fact: MIT admits about 70-80% of those interviewed. Admissions Committee member told me this. Unlike other schools, the adcom does the interviews and there are obviously many fewer adcom members, than alumni or 2nd years (for other schools). They said the biggest hurdle at MIT is actually GETTING the interview.

I got my information from a conversation with an Admissions Officer. I doubt MIT would have that information available anywhere online. The chats also elude to the corroboration of the aforementioned statistics. There should be an archive of those somewhere (even previously posted on this blog, I believe)

Talk about contradicting information...

From the ClearAdmit interview with Rod Garcia:

Quote:
...about 18 percent will be invited for an interview. (...) Basically, we interview no more than 800. So depending on the total number of applications we receive, the percentage of candidates that are invited for an interview varies. But it is no more than 800 people, and from there we will admit slightly more than half.
