Hi,

For NYU’s goals essay, do I need to mention my long-term career goal as well? The prompt asks, “What are your short-term career goals? Why is the Stern MBA the necessary next chapter in your professional story? Please be specific.” It does not explicitly ask about long-term goals.

If I decide to briefly mention my long-term goal, how much space should I dedicate to it? Also, should I explain how NYU Stern’s resources will help me achieve my long-term goal, or should I focus the resources section primarily on my short-term career goal?

Hello, Its a good idea to mention the passion that drives your goals. For most applicants that passion is achievable in the long term. So yes, you may very briefly mention the long term goals, but mainly to give the context for the short term goals. In terms of the space, I’d be more interested in reading about the passion as that brings direction and validity to your career goals.
Similarly, while you may briefly touch upon Stern’s resources for the long term, keep the focus on the short term goals.
