Hi Folks,

Am I supposed to submit optional essay if I chose former direct supervisor and not the current direct supervisor?
'If you are not selecting a direct supervisor as your recommender, please address why in the optional essay.' does not address former and current supervisor difference.

Thanks.

I think won't do any harm if you write a line or two to explain the choice.
I used the space to highlight my ECs, since there was no other space allocated for them.

I applied in R1 - didn't use a current supervisor (used a former), and didn't explain it anywhere. Also, DO NOT use the optional essay to talk about your ECs (unless they will SIGNIFICANTLY enhance your candidacy). The AdCom explicitly said not to do that when I visited, they want you to talk about it in the interview (or essays).

Thanks for your feedback folks. I decided not to use optional essay because I felt direct supervisor covers former as well as current.
And yea during admissions event Soojin clearly stated Optional essay is meant to be optional and to explain thing like low GPA and break in work ex.

It was quoted on the Admissions blog that interview invites will be sent starting Jan 19.

In for R2. May the new year bring good luck to everyone! :)

Perhaps he would have applied much earlier from the deadline.

I got a "application submitted" mail yesterday and they would contact me if they find any component of my application missing...

I have a dilemma I thought one of you could help me with. I'm a teacher and pretty much tied to my classroom. I have three personal days a year, otherwise I can't miss work. When it comes to interviewing at bschools, I can never stay for more than half a day, since I have a job I have to be back for on Sunday mornings too.

An on-campus interview is important for me, since my really non-traditional background makes off-campus a real gamble. And if I interview at Ross, I almost certainly won't be able to do the group exercise. I know they say that won't be held against you, but what's the truth here? Will it be a red flag?

Since you're already visiting the school, I;ll strongly suggest that you participate in the group event thingy.
Whatever admissions officers say, additional effort on the part of candidate is always appreciated and it strengthens one's candidacy a lot.
