I turned in my application for R3 on 4/2, and I mistakenly thought I would be less stressed after submission. So here I am, perusing the forum, because I can't get it off my mind! Thankfully there's more than enough incredible info here to keep me busy. Thank you to everyone who provided profile snapshots. I found it to be helpful.
My profile, to try and justify a spot in R3:
Navy pilot for 8 years (a little over 10 years of work experience by the time I exited - the difference being time in flight school at the beginning). I left active duty in February, and made a big move to a different city to explore working in a more dynamic field - energy. I'm at a private renewable energy firm in a hybrid finance/operations role now (think project finance, post-construction). I've had this plan in mind for a couple years: industry experience --> start my own firm in cleantech or renewables technology. Decided I needed an MBA as a key transition step instead of just WE. Stanford's curriculum offerings related to energy are the best thing out there, and I'm from Silicon Valley so it would be an easy transition back home.
Undergrad: top 30; 3.2 GPA in econ & pol sci; club sailing and crew (captain) but extra-curriculars don't matter much at this point since it was so long ago.
Grad: Service school, 3.6 GPA in strategic management
GMAT: 760 (Q49/V45/AWA6/IR7)
I'm on the older side, obviously, and I have kids so I made the case that R1 and R2 didn't work for my timeline since I couldn't swallow that much disruptive change right around the time I was leaving active duty. We'll see what the adcom thinks. Would love to follow up with anyone else applying in R3 just to see what it takes to get in for the most competitive round. Good luck everyone!
