690 is not great, but it certainly isn't bad.

I don't understand why people keep saying it is well below the cut-off or it is really hard, 690 was almost exactly the average of the mean scores from the past 5 years, which means if it is roughly normally distributed, you are better than about 50% of the students who were ACCEPTED. 690 actually puts you in the mid 80% range for ANY top business school on earth. Sure, getting a 700+ is a lot safer, but 690 shouldn't be a deciding factor of you not getting even an interview. Good luck, and get a killer application package, then I see you having a legit shot!

Unfortunately, the threshold for international applicants is usually higher than domestic students. For those who may have some insight since Indian scores have to be higher, surely this means that there are some domestic students who are accepted at lower scores. Have you noticed this in any of your classmates?

Also, I was looking at the tracks page that someone posted earlier and was wondering how they decide if you meet the requirements for the "technology leadership track". It suggests a background in computer science (or something similar). Are they looking for people who are capable of programming courses at the graduate level? As for the concentrations, what is Tepper usually known for being strong in?

Thanks!

Tepper is a Tech School and quite a lot of people end up in Tech companies in various roles. Tepper MBA is highly analytical and stress on Leadership is immense.

I am not going to comment on Tech Leadership role as I am still searching for the same. I need to talk to 2nd years and find out more about it as I am super interested in tech Leadership Track.

Secondly, just to give an overview of "Indian cohort" in Tepper purely from GMAT perspective:
Guys : 730+
Girls : 710+

This is purely international candidates. And also note that GMAT is just another criteria and Tepper Adcom is searching for well rounded individuals. Most of them have a quite strong extra curriculars. One of them already founded two successful companies.

Again: this is for this year only and can only be used for indicative purpose and not a "hard" range of scores. If you have a profile and quite a impressive background, lesser scores shouldn't be a problem.

Welcome back Kinjal sir! How has been the Tepper experience till now! :-D

Tepper is just awesome and you need to be here to experience it. Batchmates are super cool and super friendly and helpful. This is one of the traits Tepper takes an immense pride in. We are the smallest batch size in Top 15 schools so we have a very closely knit community.

Basecamp is going on now for last 2 weeks and profs, Tepper Initiatives and Tepper Alums are just awesome. Already we have met close to 12 -16 alums in various sessions and they are more than happy to share their experiences and how they have reached the level what they have reached.

I guess Indian cohort is not the only Internationals here. We have other internationals from other countries. Once you get the average scores of the International candidates then I guess you can calculate the weighted average of 35% international and then calculate the average scores of domestic candidates.

One of the unique initiatives about Tepper is Manager Ready assessment. It is a 4 hour long test with sufficient breaks to assess your people management skills and other managerial tasks.

Later on when the results will be in, there are indepth feedback sessions and work shops to develop the managerial abilities and hone your managerial skills.

This is an initiative of Accelerate Leadership center of Tepper. More on : https://tepper.cmu.edu/our-faculty-and-r ... ip-program

And Manager Ready Test is conducted by : https://www.ddiworld.com/products/manager-ready

Normally, the companies pay to assess the employees for next progression and being a tepper student, the assessment is part of the curriculum.

I am planning to write more about unique things about Tepper so that you guys can understand about Tepper in detail and make an informed decision to join Tepper. Let me know if you guys have some specific queries.

All the best for R1.

Hello Kinjal and Ankur,

I plan to apply to Tepper this year from India . Does Tepper require TOEFL scores ? Also, it will be great if you can list out the BSchools which require TOEFL scores?

If you have low GMAT score, don't be discouraged to apply for Tepper, but keep in mind they also take a look at other aspects of your application. Try to differentiate yourself among other applicants, whether it's about your work experience, your social activities, or maybe certain aspects you can tell from macro perspective, such as how enrolling in Tepper would benefit you when contributing your talent to your country in the future.

I've been here for just three weeks for Basecamp and so far it's been a great experience since they really emphasize on nurturing your career, building solid class (since it's only 210 people), and of course teaching the quant and analytical skill. We're just going to start our class upcoming Monday, so I cannot say much about it.

KS15 : yes, Tepper requires TOEFL.

Please refer to the document for TOEFL Requirements : https://tepper.cmu.edu/~/media/applicati ... .18.15.pdf

If you have any clarifications, do reach out the admission committee. There are super responsive and very friendly.

My advise would be to connect with the adcom and ask for 2nd year year contact so that you can network with them and ask relevant questions.

All the best for R1.

Hi Guys,

Now that the race for MBA program has begun I believe many of you have already taken the GMAT and are looking into the application process.
Many of us move toward various consultancy services to guide us in the application process. These services are very costly and to add to it they don't really provide a deeper insight into the pros and cons of the universities.
All we can do is find current student/Alumni on LinkedIn and just hope that they do get back to us.
Lets say they do revert but many a times due to time crunch they are not able to help us properly.
I recently came across a website which targets exactly this aspect of the whole process.
This website has current students and alumni of all top notch universities registered with them.
You can choose your mentor on it and work on your application under their guidance. They help you in creating your stories and with the intricacies of the universities that are best know to them. Moreover, the provide editing service as well. All this at a much lower price than the what the normal consultancy services charge.
Go through the website https://www.appdeft.com.
You can find the details on this website.

I hope you guys will find this site helpful.

Thanks

Hey KS15, Most of the schools waive TOEFL if you have completed your undergrad from a university where English was the primary medium of teaching.
You would need to give the schools a written proof for this.

Tepper also waives TOEFL if you show this proof.

Regards,
Ankur

Hi KinjiGC, Patartob, ankurgupta03 (and other Tepperites)

Could you elaborate on how you guys approached the "Contribute to Tepper" question. How fancy/unique or simplistic/obvious does this answer have to be in your opinion?
Also, for those of you who joined Tepper, what was you impression of "fit" before you went to school and has that altered by now? Do you see a common type or trend in fellow students that helps build this culture?

Thanks for all the inputs guys. Much appreciate it.

Hey ab87,

Happy to help.
First of all, we call the students Tepperonis :)

The contribute to Tepper question can be answered in any form that suits you. You can make a fancy story out of it, or simply tell them how you can help.
This is a place where you tie in your past experiences and traits with Tepper's offerings and there can be several ways to contribute.

You can connect yourself with the study model.
Or you can contribute to the clubs at Tepper. There will be clubs in the areas that interest you. You can provide insights to these clubs or can start something new there.
If feasible and the resources are present, you can even talk about a club that you would want to start after you get into Tepper.

Regarding you second question, I think kinjiGC will be able to tackle it in a better way.

Hey guys!
Kinjal and Ankurgupta : Since you must have the broader picture, would you be able to advice on which of Tepper, Ross and Haas has scope for greater scholarship for greater numbers? Well, that would link to size of endowments, yes?
Appreciate any light on the above.
