Hi All,

Met Bruce yesterday in an event in London. He acknowledged the issues that a few applicants have faced with regard to content display in the review file. He said not to worry about it as the entire information/essay content will be available with the adcom. Dean Snyder was there as well, and I have to say it was a great experience interacting with him. Tim Collins, the great investment wizard, also made a special appearance. His presence added an extra flavour to an already amazing evening. I was already sold on Yale SOM's magic touch but being there yesterday was another enforcing experience.

I have just submitted my application and will have to now complete video essays by 25th. It will be a race against time. Please do share your experiences on the video essays. I spoke to Bruce about it and he was frank enough to admit that the whole video element will be awkward for everyone. What will be judged is the ability to think on one's feet and clarity in the expression of thoughts.

You have it bang on. It's basically them testing you as to how you respond within a time constraint and just like a regular interview. Just take a look at the questions from last year and you should be ok. It's a bit nerve wracking and the process of speaking to yourself on a webcam is a bit unnatural but it is what it is. I think because they've eliminated the TOEFL requirement its also a way for them to test your English skills.

Does anyone know how many weeks after you submit before you hear back about interviews?

You can hear anytime from a week or two after submitting to the day decisions are announced. Yale reviews applications in a random order and asks people to come in for interviews on a rolling basis. Don't judge your chances according to when other people hear because it doesn't give you any new information about your actual chances.

Just want to let you all know that you do not have to worry about them and I do not think you have to prepare much for the questions (not that you could).
The questions are very basic and just as Bruce described.

Just make sure you are rested and have an open mind.

Done with my video essays too. I have to say, a lot of my fears were unfounded. It was a rather smooth process. I did practice beforehand so I think that helped as well. Plus, incorporating all the suggestions from previous year thread worked too. The questions are very generic interview-like and something that you cannot really prepare for in advance (as rightly pointed out by Peter in the previous message).

Hi everyone! In the "Activities/Professional Affiliations" section, should I include activities I participated in during college? Or should I only include activities after finishing college? I am a bit confused about this. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi onion,

What activities you include this section depends on how important those activities are to you and how far removed (or not) you are from college.

If you are still in school and applying to the Silver Scholars program, then by all means, include what you did (are doing) in college!

Otherwise, use your best judgment -- if there are activities that participated in during college, you could include those if you feel they add to what you've done since that time and show the admissions office what type of person you are and how involved you are in your community. If you did a stint with the school paper during first semester of your freshman year of college 10 years ago, that might not add as much value to your application.

Hope that provides some perspective. Try not to over-think this question! Put what's important to you!

Submitted the video questions. Usually I am not good at interviews. Seeing yourself doing a lot of "umm", "erm" is pretty awkward. The questions were very easy though. Now the waiting begins.

chairman14 Tell me about it! Same questions in person, I would have had no problems answering. But talking to my computer? I felt so stupid. I thought I had a decent chance at Yale, but after that disaster, I've pretty much thrown in the towel.

I wouldn't worry about it. Last year I applied and royally messed up the video questions. As in basically fell apart halfway through a questions and threw in the towel and thought I'd never hear back. Got invited to interview anyway and waitlisted before the final ding this summer. I think the video had very little impact. Good luck!

Has anyone here been to Yale for the on-campus visit yet? I'm curious to know what your experience was like. I understand that the agenda includes sitting in on a class in the morning, and I assume that you are given the option to choose which class you'd like to sit in on?
