Thanks for the info! Do you have any sense of how common they are? I really couldn't find much online

Posted from my mobile device

I don't have the figure for merit scholarship but according to the Columbia website, approximately 50% of all applicants "receive some sort of funding" - merit AND need-based included.

Hi All,

Long-time lurker first time poster - this forum has been such a wealth of information, this is the least I can do to give back.

Application Complete: 12/20
Invited to Interview: 01/23
Interview Conducted: 02/12 (took forever to find an alum who would respond!)
Feedback Submitted: 02/12
Acceptance: 02/25 (4pm EST)

The admissions committee spent 13 days on my decision (though including 2 weekends and the President's Day, to be fair), I had almost lost my faith when I saw somebody with a later Interview Feedback submission date receive the decision before me last week. But it all worked out in the end... :)

Applied 1/17 and was denied yesterday 2/24, but with no email. Bummed, but I got interviews at HBS, Wharton, and Sloan so fingers crossed one of those pans out!

I think ultimately the school was not the right fit and I probably was not as excited about it as someone who might have otherwise not gotten in. Anyways, sucks to be told no, but I hope everyone else has success where I did not!

Applied on 1/16. Denied without interview on 2/26.
However, the update mentions that "based on the strength of your professional background, stated career goals, and personal profile, the Committee thinks you might be a better fit for our January program".
Is this unusual or do a lot of people get something like it in their rejection letter? Columbia is my top choice, so should I get my hopes up about getting a spot in the January program?

I definitely didn't get that! They sent a note that basically amounted to a .....we hope you can figure out your life even with this disappointment. I would even go so far as to say the tone of their letter made it sound like I should not even consider applying again.

I know someone who got the similar update, applied to J term in May, and got accepted by July! There is not much difference b/w two programs, but you won't get the summer internship opportunity. My friend is doing a part time internship with a HF though (benefits of going to school in NYC)

Georgesrizk88, if you read past threads, some people do receive messages about January program in their rejection letter, so when Columbia says you might be a better fit for January, this is somewhat encouraging but by no means a guarantee. I wouldn't say, "get hopes up about getting a spot in January program" because you still have to apply this coming year for entry next year, and you have a new set of applicant pool to compete with. But Columbia loves re-applicants, so you do have a really decent shot.

Applied on 1/16. Denied without interview today 2/25.
Got an email saying there's a status update on the application website, where there was a little letter of rejection.
Based in NYC, 3.5 yrs in management consulting, post MBA goal entrepreneurship.

Good luck to the rest of you.

Tough luck - you have similar numbers to myself, best of luck on your other apps.

Submitted 1/5, no rejection or interview offer yet.

Had my interview today, which went pretty well. It was with an individual who graduated from CBS about 12-14 years ago. What was interesting to me was the difference between this interview and my others (which have been with 2nd year students). Because of his experience, he would seek more depth behind answers. Some general statements that I used in other interviews that were accepted at face value by students would spark follow-ups. Not to say that this was in any way bad, as it led to some interesting avenues of discussion. All in all, fairly conversational and I thought it was reasonably good.

Now just have to wait. I know we are approaching the end of the class, which is making me nervous. Regardless, I really hope that I hear quickly one way or the other.

GL - I interviewed more than a week ago and look forward to hearing my decision this upcoming week. Hope you get yours sooner!
