Congrats on all the acceptances! Tough call but here are our thoughts on your questions
1.Is 10 months too short a time to be in and out of college? Will short duration of program have a negative impact while searching for the job and further getting an H1B visa? Is a full 1.5 year program preferred over a 10 month program?
A: Timing is all relative. If the program can be completed to the fullest in 10 months, then it's sufficient. If you know going into this program that you have 10 months (or whatever amount of time) to find the job, you will plan appropriately. If you were given an additional 8 months for the 1.5 year program, would you really start looking for a job within the first 6 months? Odds are you won't land one because no one will hire you that far in advance. The 10-month program shouldn't raise concerns.
2. Is it worth spending the extra amount for Columbia just for the tag of an IVY league? How much impact will it have on my career if I get a degree from an IVY college?
A: It matters a lot. When you tell people you have a masters degree from Columbia, they will often times think highly of you. We live in a brand-driven society. As far as much impact it will have on your career, that's a harder question to answer. It could have virtually none if you choose not to promote it, leverage alumni/resources, or even stay in a relevant field. Flip all of those things around, and it could be very value-added. While it doesn't carry quite the same weight as the undergraduate degree, being a part of the Ivy League ecosystem has many benefits.
3. Which one has the bigger brand value between CMU and UT Austin?
A: If I had to split hairs, I would say CMU, but it's a close call. Both parent universities are very well-known. Texas feels a bit more regional given the number of people who come from and stay in Texas after graduation. CMU has more of a technical/engineering association. Overall, I don't think you can truly say that one is necessarily better than the other. If deciding between these two, I would go with the one that is a better fit for many of the criteria you have laid out above.
