Hi guys!
Wanted help with profile evaluation and target score for MiM. I am targeting INSEAD, ISB and HEC mainly.
22 F
99% in 10th
95th in 12th (Commerce+ Paths)
8.3 in BA Economics Hons from Top 10 Universities in DU
School Achievements (idk if they're relevant)
1. Runner up in an international business competition in 12th
2. Scored a 100 in Hindi
College achievements
1. Head of Marketing and Sales for an ENACTUS Project in my college
2. Won 2 case competitions organised by other DU colleges
3. Started a marketplace business in the last semester but couldn't build due to shortage of cash

Work Experience
1. Founder's office role in a health tech start up (majorly working around sales and social media)
2. Transitioned to finance after getting a job in a boutique investment banking firm where I have handled parts of deals worth $100Mn
3. Currently on a two month leave to prepare for GMAT

I also work closely with a founder of an NGO on strategizing and conducting policy events in North India.
How much should I be scoring on a minimum for a competitive profile? And is this profile good enough to be considered?

Did you give GMAT ? As it is an important part of the application..your profile looks good but you need to complement it a good score as the schools you mentioned are competitive

GMAT, your profile,LORs,essays are all equally important parts of your application..Yes 645+ would put you in a good position but I’d really suggest putting emphasis and your mission with the school in your essays and LORs(becoz in my interview they asked directly from one of my essay answers).Good luck and don’t hesitate to ask if you have further doubts

You have a good profile Harshita

a GMAT score will explain properly your chances of admission and scholarship

1) With 645 GMAT you will have good claim to convert MiM at these three ambitious schools

2) with 665 GMAT, you would have good chances to get admission with a scholarship in two of these three schools

3) With 695 GMAT, all is great! 😀

Hi all,
I was looking for some help for profile evaluation as I will be applying to the MBF of HSG.

I am a 3rd year Economics and Business Economics bachelor at a top dutch university.

My profile right now is the following:

- GPA 8.6/10 (5.7/6 Swiss)
- Studying right now for GMAT Focus, if everything goes well, I should get 685
- Currently doing a 5 months VC internship
- Been extremely active in student associations all throughout my second year (International case competition, VC associations and many more)
- Working part-time in a small startup as Startegy Director
- Volleyball captain for 3 years
- A lot of international experience as I moved to the Netherlands from Italy after having completed an exchange year in Canada during high school

Feel free to share any thoughts/advices !

Tbh, adcoms would see your profile as super strong on paper —> 99% GMAT, CFA all 3 levels, two MBAs from top unis, all academics from QS-ranked schools... that’s insane.

But the flip side is, they might see you as overqualified and misfit for MFin. At 29, you’d be older than the usual class (mostly 22–27), and with two MBAs + CFA, they’ll wonder why you still need a pre-experience degree(considered in most schools)

Biggest red flag = zero work exp. They might worry: “How can someone so credentialed have no track record”

So yeah, they’d like your raw talent and drive, but they could reject on grounds of employability, program fit, and looking like you’re collecting degrees without a clear career plan

That’s my opinion if I were in a committee..others can chip in and completely disagree with me as well

@Dexter Could you also shed some light on scholarship options available in R2 at ESSEC for Indians. I understand R1 is better for coverting chances, but I dont have a solid GMAT score yet, so was considering R2

For scholarship there is no specific criteria that if you apply in a certain round you will definitely get it. Some students in R4 get scholarships as well but yes R1 has better chances as the school have more options but if your profile is exceptional you can get in R4 as well(just make sure all the components of your application are at their best possible this includes your profile, LOR, essays and GMAT)

Thanks a lot for your reply.
Getting a top entry-level bank job in bangladesh is competing with around 100k candidates for about 500 positions. Also, I don't have any finance degree to get any experience in finance, and even if I were to leverage my qualifications for a prestigious corporate/ banking job it's still less than 12k dollars annually which isn't much compared to the pay abroad.
Getting a job might hinder me from continuing my mba or passing the cfa levels as soon as possible. By the time I finish my 2nd MBA, I would be 29 anyway. (28 now)
So would u suggest prioritizing work experience over the CFA?
And if u were to put a percentage of success given my profile above, what would be your score be? Planning to apply to Oxford, Mcgill, Yale, Columbia, Chicago Booth , Hec Paris, Bocconi and Essec , University of Texas at Austin and Vanderbilt for their mfin programs
Your help and guidance would be much appreciated
From an adcom’s perspective, the gap is really on the experience side. Even a short role, internship, or something outside finance helps prove you can apply what you’ve learned. Otherwise, it risks looking like pure academics without practice, and that can make top schools hesitate on employability

And just to be real...in the schools you listed (Oxford, Yale, Columbia, HEC, etc.), people often come in with really strong experiences : startups, boutique finance, consulting, even leadership roles. That’s the peer group you’d be compared against

Do you have any experience outside of finance you could highlight? Sometimes even non-finance roles can strengthen your story if framed right
