The flawed reasoning in which one of the following is most similar to that in the commentator’s argument?
Assumption: Because of a certain effect the quality of xy will not improve, but rather certainly become worse
(A) Because Raoul is a vegetarian, he will not have the pepperoni pizza for lunch. It follows that he will have the cheese pizza. out of scope, because it doesn't rate the quality
(B) Given that over 250 years of attempts to prove the Goldbach conjecture have failed, it will probably never be proved. Hence, it is more likely to be disproved than proved. This one is tricky. It's wrong because it's a black/white argumentation. Either the conjecture will be proved or it will be disproved with the latter choice being more likely. If we apply that logic to the original question it would mean that either the teaching quality will be perfect or absolutely desastrous. However, this isn't the case because there are many grades inbetween the both extremes. Thus, B) is incorrect.
(C) Since funding levels for social programs are being frozen, our society will not become more harmonious. Thus, it may become more discordant.This is trick as well as it mentions freezing a process too and uses something that looks like a case similar to the one described in the question. Albeit, the answer mentions that society may become more discordant. In the question it is said that education quality will surely deteriorate. Because of this difference we can preclude C).
(D) Since there is a storm moving in, the outside temperature cannot rise this afternoon.Therefore, it must fall. This looks pretty good. We have the effect, namely the storm, which will prohibit an increase in temperature. Therefore the temperatures will drop. This perfectly resembles the structure of the example given in the question. Hence, D) is correct.
(E) The starter in Mary’s car gave out weeks ago,and so it is impossible for the carto start. This answer doesn't mention that anything can't improve now. It just says that the car can't be started. The original case precludes the option for improvement. In this answer it should be something like "because starting the car even with a broken starter is unlikely...". I hope you get what I'm trying to point out. However, it's definitely incorrect.
