This isn't awesome: some of my students have reported test center closures that don't appear on the GMAC website. So if you have an exam coming soon, you might want to call your test center to make sure that it's still open -- especially if the test center is located at a college or university, many of which are completely closed now.

I'm seeing the same thing for China: The GMAC webpage https://www.mba.com/articles-and-announ ... oronavirus is showing that tests are cancelled through March 31st in mainland China, though GMAT's official China WeChat social media account is saying tests are cancelled in mainland China through April.

I was planning to retake in April, but looks like we'll have to wait further here also.

Both Pearson and GMAC provides information on closed test centers. Would recommend going through both websites to check, since GMAC may not provide information on Pearson-operated test centers:

GMAC's update: https://www.mba.com/articles-and-announ ... oronavirus
Pearson's update: https://home.pearsonvue.com/coronavirus ... y-specific

All the best! :)

Interesting... I wonder if they have adjusted their China policy to be in line with the rest of the world. China to sinners closed early back in January so it’s been two months of no test so ready and April would be the third one. Tough for China applicants.... hoping your test centers open up earlier.

I wonder the same as well. Mainland China is one of the few regions in the world that has recovered from the virus, so it technically should be safe to take the test in April here. I can see the economics of having the GMAT official test questions "exposed" to only one region of the world (granted a fairly large region) to be not worthwhile since these questions, once exposed, presumably cannot be used again in future exams, and it is costly to create official GMAT questions as we all know.

Meanwhile, GMAC might actually be responding to the current crisis - saw this post today on GMAC's website:

Quote:
Interim GMAT™ Exam - Available Online Mid-April

We all recognize this is a challenging time for testing with test center closures around the world. To help you, we are preparing an alternative GMAT™ exam available online.

This interim GMAT exam will provide a comparable structure, number of items, and scoring as delivered in test centers. The Quant, Verbal and IR sections (no AWA section) will have the same number of items and the same time for completion. This will allow us to maintain the same score scale for both the Section Scores and Total Score.

The check-in and security protocols will be modified to accommodate online delivery and remote proctors will be used to manage test integrity.

The alternative test will be available in impacted markets, outside of mainland China. GMAC is continuing to work with the Chinese government authorities to present appropriate, alternative solutions for test takers in mainland China.

In light of the current unprecedented situation, this interim solution will be offered at a lower price point than the standard GMAT exam to support our test takers and schools during this difficult time.

Additional details coming soon.

I’m sorry. It’s rough especially if you’re stuck inside and limited in terms of activity or options. I am struggling for some positive news to and cherish every little morsel that comes my way like a famished cat... hang on to those positives for the time being. The first step is to stop the negativity from expanding and then we can work to reclaim ground and normalcy after that.

I was fine until Sunday but now I am not.

India is under 21 day lock down. I am really really worried about my parents now. Though I am conveying the same to them.

My brother is in Philippines with his family. So they are in lock down since 3 weeks already.

I don't want to discuss my whole life here but I am very very disheartened right now.

Dear Gmatclub friends,
I'm a test taker from Italy and I've just received this email:

"Hi Mario,

We all recognize this is a challenging time for testing with test center closures around the world. To help, GMAC is actively working to launch an online alternative GMAT™ exam to be used during the closure of test centers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Online Testing Alternative
Our goal is to make available an online, live proctored version of the GMAT™ exam for test takers in areas impacted by test center closures, outside of mainland China. GMAC is continuing to work with the Chinese government authorities to present appropriate, alternative solutions for test-takers in mainland China.

In light of the current unprecedented situation, this interim solution will be offered at a lower price point than the standard GMAT™ exam to support you during this difficult time.

The online interim solution will have a similar structure to the GMAT™ exam delivered in test centers. The Quant, Verbal and IR sections (no AWA section) will contain the same number of questions and time for completion. This will allow us to maintain the same score scale for both the Section Scores and Total Score. The check-in and security protocols will be modified to accommodate online delivery and remote human proctors will be used to manage test integrity.

Preparing for the Alternative Test
If you have been preparing to take the GMAT™ exam in person you can feel confident in continuing your online practice with the GMAT™ Official Practice materials, as that preparation is relevant to the online, proctored experience.

We will share details on the registration timing and process in the coming weeks.

We know that as a candidate for an MBA or business master’s program, that you are likely facing uncertainty right now due to the global impact of COVID-19. It is a stressful time, and we want to help you navigate your journey to business school.

Stay up-to-date
We are working in close partnership with our testing partners to provide you with the most up-to-date information on test center closures, modified testing procedures, health & safety measures, and FAQs on a dedicated section of our website.

Please stay safe as we navigate through the next days and weeks together"

Yours Sincerely,
The GMAT Team

Thankfully I am awaiting admissions news not sitting the GMAT but now I'm really worried that there will be no option to defer and if I go overseas to study that I will end up learning over skype the entire time, in isolation with no social events!

This is something that is freaking me out. Think about it, we pay lots of money for having classes in person in a special environment surrounded by a great cohort, having great networking, university facilities and so on. We pay for all package, and the whole pack makes the program unique wherever it is. So, since I´m accepted already to start this year in a b-school, should I start having on-line classes? should I pay the same price for less than what was offered for me? Is it fair to charge the same price for this kind of class? I got a loan to pay a high tuition and living expenses abroad to have classes in my room and I'll probably keep paying that for 15 f****** years, it´s not fair the schools change the rules in the middle of the game after you bet your money on that.

I think that a decent school shouldn´t even start its program in these conditions, postoponing that, however they don´t say anything about it, they only say they are innovating and changing ways to teach and everything is gonna be all right. I´m sure it´s their business, but I´m sure too that we don´t have to pay for something different than offered before. Thus, it must be balanced, we can´t be the part hurted, it can also decrease their reputation on rankings, hence OUR reputation as graduates from there.

Therefore, I made a deposit already, however I´m thinking of asking a refund for my deposit made, and if possible, asking to keep my spot for the next year, if they think in starting unlike the original program. What do you guys think?

I couldn't agree more. It is unacceptable that people are expected to pay for a degree that costs as much as a house in most countries and then take classes online. They should either refund 50% of tuition or delay graduation of that class by a semester.

This will be a major consideration for me as I consider matriculating in the fall. You only get to do an MBA once. If one of your six quarters is online, that is lost value you will never be able to recoup. I understand these are unprecedented times, but you can't dilute the product you're offering when the price is so high. Just my 2c.

I have a question - I requested for a refund due to Covid and they agreed. However, they said I’d have to call them directly at one of their two numbers: 800 717 4628 and 952 681 3680. I dialed and call dropped like away - couldn’t even get to a speaking robot. Has anyone had success in calling them? Thanks!
