I am not sure what "they" refers in C. to me E looks better. Can someone help.

In C – ‘they’ may refer either to specimens or to the findings.
One can say that teeth they (the specimens) found belonged to an extinct animal.
Alternatively, one can also say that they (the findings) -- meaning, whatever was found--, found belonged to an extinct animal. Of course, it is somewhat jarring to say that the findings found
In all sense, it will be good to drop the ambiguous ‘they found’. In contrast, E is straighter,although we may need a comma before –which-.

I agree with daagh. E is the only possible answer here, although it still doesn't read like a real GMAT question. I'd be careful about studying from random collections of questions. At least if you study individual questions here on GC, you can see if people are criticizing the question or individual answers as unrepresentative of the real test.
