Hi yadu9991,

A 680/Q49 is a great score (it's just shy of the 90th percentile overall) that would make most Business Schools happy, so you might not need to retake the GMAT. What Business Schools are you planning to apply to and when?

If you're looking at applying to any competitive programs, then you have to remember that Business Schools nitpick your OVERALL application. At that level, no GMAT score would guarantee you anything (not even an 800), so to strengthen your application, you might consider working with an Admissions Expert to craft your OVERALL application in the most effective way possible (including a specific set of essays/personal statements).

If you're dead set on retaking the GMAT, then there are other companies besides the ones that you've listed. Most GMAT companies offer some type of free resources (practice problems, Trial Accounts, videos, etc.), so that you can "test out" a product before you buy it. I suggest that you take advantage of ALL of the options, then choose the one that best matches your personality, timeline and budget.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

Dear GMAT Assassins,

I have already attempted GMAT last year and scored 680 (49 quant and 33 verbal).

However, I'm aiming for 730+ and want to give the GMAT in July 1st week, so I want to know about the computer based courses. Please provide you feedback on the 3 online courses that I've mentioned.

I want to know about the best verbal courses.

Regards
Neeraj

Hi Neeraj,

To decide on the best institute for your GMAT verbal preparation, I would suggest you to visit some of the coaching centers close to your home and interact with their expert counselors. Take a mock test with them and discuss your performance in detail with the faculty there.Ask all your questions and try to understand if your queries are being addressed well. This will help you a lot in taking your decision.

Also, start reading articles, science journals , business tabloids and read them online and figure out for yourself if you can understand the language and the main idea present in the passage. This would be a better way to tackle vocabulary on the GMAT and will improve your scores in verbal.

Hope this helps.Let us know if you need any further guidance regarding your GMAT preparation.Wish you the best.

Thanks for asking this question. Someone pointed out to this thread to me as I had missed it. So sorry for the delay in responding.

I don't think we can get into a X vs Y vs Z debate on GMAT online courses. Each one has its own benefits. I would recommend the following for someone looking at the CrackVerbal Online GMAT Course (https://gmatonline.crackverbal.com)

1) The CrackVerbal course is valid for a full one-year. This means even if you were to not take it now but postpone it a few months we don't have a problem. Once a CrackVerbal student - Always a CrackVerbal student. The reason behind this philosophy is that different students have different commitments. Sometimes despite the best of our intentions, some unforeseen circumstances could force us to push our GMAT plans temporarily. I don't think that should really hold you back from starting your GMAT course. There is a small renewal fees if you choose to extend for another year - but that's about it.

2) The CrackVerbal Online course students - both the on-demand and the live course get access to phone/email support. We have a small but dedicated academics team in India (based out of Bangalore and Chennai). This means you have a dedicated number/email id that you can reach out to. That too in India time. Sometimes our students call us to ask us things such as when they should book the GMAT dates, or discuss issues such as time-management on RC, or simply a pep-talk to motivate them. Apart from this we also have one of India's largest GMAT forum exclusively for students. Once you pose a query we will get back to you typically within 48hours.

3) The Crackverbal Support system understands that the biggest challenge to the online course is to keep yourself motivated. We will keep you on the straight and narrow by giving you a detailed study plan. On top of that we give you the hand-holding required for you on this GMAT journey by assigning a dedicated student counselor, who is just a phone call away. We will have a live instructor-led session every other weekend to discuss advanced GMAT Strategies.

4) Our course curriculum has taken over 9 years to develop. There are no marketing gimmicks so don't expect any mnemonics or any quick-fix techniques. GMAT is NOT a test of concepts alone but it is a test of how well you are able to apply the concept. I think 90% of test-takers have a problem understanding this. The techniques we teach are based purely on the ninja hacks that we have seen work for our high-scoring students (see more here: https://www.crackverbal.com/forum/display/Student-Debriefs/21). We are Verbal focussed but have an excellent Quant module that is geared to take you to a Q50-51 level.

We are a small and growing company which believes in our students being our brand ambassadors. We have had many students who have taken the course be blown by what we have to offer. Instead of thinking you can just let us know and we will guide you through the journey. If you like what you see then good. Else we will still try our best to help you in whatever way.

You can sign up here: https://gmatonline.crackverbal.com for a free trial that includes videos that will help you improve your GMAT scores.

Thanks,

Arun

Well, i, as a moderator, usually don't participate in such open debates but on this occasion i can comment since i have some exposure to each of these courses.
Firstly, what Arun has said is correct and i have had feedbacks from students regarding this online/telephone support. Most of them were happy with crack verbal and also happy with their gmat scores. I also had the chance to watch some of their videos and i really liked the way crackverbal taught their students.Arun's teaching methods are good but i can't comment on other faculties.

Scondly, e-gmat is a very popular among online students and they get immense appreciation for their sentence correction course.
Only thing i can say about gmatpill is their vast collection of questions especially rc.gmatpill's rc is next to official rc.
Hopefully i have covered all the pointers about each one of the courses. In case you have a query ask me or if you need to ask anything off the public forum , you can always pm me.
Good luck with your prep

Is appalled by all the marketing gimmicks of all the above coaching centers to dupe vulnerable students . Will give a frank opinion from a students perspective, who has taken both the services e-gmat and crackverbal .

E-gmat ...completely useless if u are looking to improve verbal . After u pay the fees u get access to some random videos uploaded, each explaining some basic concepts . The thing is these concepts are pretty basic and can be found online in Manhattan's Thursdays with Ron series (they are pretty amazing and honest do check them .) for free !! . They have very minimal questions to practice from.... a very big disadvantage , since without practice no point in cramming in concepts .
Although after going through their explanations given for various questions on gmatclub I was impressed by them but thats it ..... dnt expect much from their paid services .Pluss they dont have any tests of their own , then no way to test urself .

Crack verbal ..... Ohh boy !! where do i begin .... i have attended their classes ....complete trickery or rather sophistry is the right word i believe.
During the free intro classes they discuss very complex examples which make u believe that ur sooper dumb and then once when u enroll u realise that they dont have much to offer , probably the introductory class was the best class in the entire course . THeir claims of sending people to LBS, Stanford and others Ivys are of people who already had a stellar profile and just needed a touch up on their essays . Dont be fooled by the fancy website . their material is very basic and not much informative . No test series of their own again ! ...... the thing is they claim to teach u shortcuts fr RCs and CRs . The ugly truth is there are no shortcuts . U cant game the exam , no matter what they say . U have to improve ur English !! ...period . which takes time .

So what should one do !! ....... practice practice and practice by urself from as many books as u can.Buy Kaplan Manhattan and different books see the questions and learn from them . Because take it from me in writing there are no tricks or shortcuts for verbal . U have to read dense material and improve ur English and simultaneously practise. Watch Manhattans Thursdays with Rons they are a pot of gold ! when it comes to building concepts....

Do lsat verbal questions for more practice . Atleast RC and CR can be covered . Pluss LSAT has pretty decent questions . Read Opinion pages of nytimes , guardian et al . Daily practise quant fro 1-2 hr and verbal for 1 hr . Use the gmat prep tests very wisely . They are the closest u will get to giving the real gmat exam . Manhattan's 6 gmat test are also good but wayy tougher than the real exam . Do give them . Also search for solutions for each and every OG question in google . ROns explanation on their blog r pretty accurate .
The gmat exam also is evolving the old tricks which these coaching centers purport to teach no longer apply . Take it from a guy who gave gmat twice .

WHO AM i to give this advice?? --- a guy who gave GMAT twice -- 1st attempt - 700
2nd attempt - 720

Got in two Colleges with 50% fellowship . DOnt believe me go ahead waste 20k or more on these coaching guys . ALL the Best bro !! :)

Hi AvgIndianGuy,

At the outset, I am sorry if you have had an issue and more sorry that I did not get to know about it. Trust me - once it comes to me, I would have personally made efforts to fix all issues. Did you take the entire course? Can you provide me with the details so I can follow it up from my end?

From our side I wanted to offer the following points:

Firstly, as a CrackVerbal student there are multiple places for recourse. As you know we provide an opportunity to give feedback through out the course. Also you have a student counsellor who is appointed and you the number to directly pick the phone to call us. I am available to talk to all students so at any point you have the option to directly approach me. We also have a dedicated email id to which you can mail for any queries or questions.

Secondly, our course goes from easy -> difficult where we start with the basics in the 1st class. SC is about the approach and grammar. CR is about how to think like a lawyer. RC is about how real-life reading won't work on the GMAT. All these are provided so that a new student gets a perspective. In fact we announce in the class that if you have already have started preparing then you might need to unlearn a few thins.

Thirdly, at no point do we claim that the students who scored the 700s are because of CrackVerbal. On the contrary, I actually give an example of reverse causation saying that CrackVerbal attracts the studious and bright type of students so we benefit them by providing the extra push. Someone like Neeraj who has founded India's most exciting startup in the F&B sector was a CrackVerbal student who scored a 770. I cannot possibly lay claim to any of his achievements except that I helped him channelize his energy on the GMAT.

Please our philosophy in this note on our FB page from April 2011!

https://www.facebook.com/notes/crackver ... 4771490462

Copy pasting the relevant part:
:
But, my friends, it is a game that only YOU to have to play. At the end of the day all the coaches, captains and support staff of the world cannot make you score without YOUR hardwork, dedication and smartness. You will have to talk the talk and walk the walk. There are no two ways about it.

So introspect hard and ask yourself this question - do I have it in me to hack it alone. Let me assure you that many of the people who have scored the big 770s and 780s have done it alone and with only the OG! So if you think you have it in you to do it and the wherewithal to seek support and guidance (from forums and others who have taken the test) then by all means do it alone. No test prep is needed.

I hope you take my response in the right spirit. I am not trying to give feedback on feedback but just trying to provide my perspective on things.

Thanks,

Arun

Hi,

I don't know much about GMAT Pill, but about e-GMAT is based upon simple formula of “Weak Product, Strong Marketing”. This company has made best use of forums in promoting themselves in the students world.

But About Crack Verbal as I have personally used it -->

SC,CR & RC Videos are very good
Their Question Bank is Superb
Quant videos are very informative and to the point.
Overall its good deal to opt for CrackVerbal

Hi there,

I think CrackVerbal is one of the friendliest and structured GMAT prep.

I have purchased the course and I am extremely happy with the resources, the guidance and the support that they provide.

I would definitely recommend it to everyone. I was able to get in touch with the tutors via email and they are very prompt and always ready to get on a call if needed. I totally appreciate the framework and the content of the course as well.

Thanks.

I have subscription of both E-GMAT as well as Crackverbal.
If we talk about the course content, then the videos of Crackverbal are much more effective it provides a face to face type of interaction.
Talking of the question bank, again I’ll put crackverbal ahead seeing the quality of questions they have along with the detailed solutions.

I don’t know about GMAT Pill but as I have been a student of both e-gmat an crackbverbal I might be a better judge of the question which one is better.
E-gmat is a good course for a person with very weak basics. It really helped me in establishing a base but the question bank is very limited and repetitive.
Whereas in Crackverbal the best part is exam section where there are questions which are divided into levels and the higher levels are unlocked only when one solves the lower level (500-600 level) questions. The tracker along with every section helped me in tracking me success, moreover the AWA section was very helpful for me coz personally I am not much of a writer and the last time I wrote something was for my 12th CBSE Board exam which was ages ago. Overall my experience with Crackverbal has been very smooth and learning one.
And then also if you are stuck somewhere you can always ask for help from Crackverbal’s team and a call is most certainly arranged within a day or 2. E-gmat lacks this personalization (I know we are here to study and not mingle with people BUT this also plays a crucial role).

Hi,

Well, there can't be any kind of comparison between any of the online course just like one can't compare Sachin with Virat or with Sir Viv Richard. All of them has their own strong area, own methodology and own way of practice. So, comparison is useless. However, one can point out pros and cons of an individual but that doesn't mean one is inferior to other, rather they all stood head and shoulder above eachother.

Coming to CrackVerbal, I must say their sole motive is to channelise ones energy in the right direction so that an individual can give their best at the test day. The structured study timeline can help a working individual plus the bit size video for concept and then application video help one to boost the confidence.

The backend team is always ready to support an individual with all the problems and concerns.

As said each student has a counselor with whom one can interact, well yes! they do have student counselor, I have a dedicated person with whom I can get in touch with my query and concerns.

If required a student can approach to the team to further help with course and it's timeline, the team can revise it given the circumstances.

Therefore it's all about an individual and what lense one is wearing to see the courses. I belong to a generation of Sachin-Virat, but I can't deny the credit of Sir Viv. CrackVerbal is also same, one can't take away their efforts of long 8-10 years to create study material and updating it timely as per the GMAT.
