Sad to hear your distress; If you couldn't reach cross 580 in one year, then it is high time you take one-to-one coaching, however expensive it might be. Take the help of experts such as Gmatclub for locating a suitable guru.
Things wlll work wonders for you. Best wishes!

I gave my 2nd gmat attempt today and failed again miserably. I scored 560(Q44 V22) in the first attempt and 580(Q42 V 28) today in the second attempt. I joined T.I.M.E last year for gmat and after the failed first attempt took E-Gmat verbal course and bought Expert's global 15 mock tests. I haven't seen much of an improvement over the time period. Please guide me on what should I do next. I feel Gmat is not for me because it has been more than a year since I started preparing for it. I am an MIM aspirant and Targeting a score of atleast a 700.
PS- I scored in the range of 600 to 680 in all the mocks.
Kindly advise asap.

I see too many different third party materials, leading perhaps to haphazard "learning". To score well, you need to be strong in the fundamentals. Doing a bunch of mocks and solving random problems will not lead to sustained learning.

I suggest that you concentrate on a small handful of materials, drill on the fundamentals through textbooks and practice a few problems with deep analyses thrown in.

Throwing money around at slickly marketed prep stuff will do great damage to your preparation. Deep changes in approach are needed. GL!

Hi, Thankyou for the response.
Can you tell me in detail what should I do next. I agree with your advice of not choosing several third party material. But, during my preparation I found OG questions really easy for quant.

Hi, thanks for your response. Can you help me out in this matter?
I don't wish to take any private tutoring since I already took one in the begining. I want to tackle this on my own.

Hi Poorvi55 - I would recommend you to get the basics right first! That's the fault even I faced, if I were to point a finger on something.

GMAT is all about quality, not quantity! Make an error log and explore GMAT for the topics where you find yourself struggling.

And believe me, there aren't any shortcuts to success! No one can actually tell you the exact thing to do. The experts can only guide you until a point, but its you who have to fight your own battle at the end!

Just get up and crush it buddy!

Thank you for your response. I agree on the part about experts and I don't wish to go for private tutoring. Coming to the point about basics, I don't really know where to start from now as I feel I am terrible in both Quant and verbal. I was scoring around 650 in the mocks but 580 nowhere near. How should I approach the preparation now? What should be my first step If I plan to reappear after 30 to 40 days?

Poorvi55 - I am sailing in the same boat like many others on gmatclub and would share the same advise "use error logs". Write the kind of mistakes that you make (chances are that you would repeat them again) and just tackle them one by one!

All the best :)

Yes, I will go through all the past tests and mocks I have attempted and track all the mistakes, and then target the weak areas. Maybe error logs is the only way.
Thank you!

Hi Poorvi55 - Indeed! And for that, gmatclub is an amazing place to improve! You can leverage on the tags for each question and reach out to the experts in case you face any challenge in understanding any question.

Also, one of the best advise I have ever received on gmatclub is "try and help others on their doubts and queries"! You actually learn more by teaching others and eventually improve your skills.

All the best !

Poorvi55 - I would assume one cannot screw up in any exam because you spent more time on that! Although its imperative to relax and keep cool while giving the exam, GMAT demands you attention! So just enjoy the phase, and you will figure out yourself!

All the best!
