Hello!
Is a 322 on the GRE (165 quant & 153 verbal) better for admissions chances than a 540 GMAT (39 quant & 25 verbal) for a Ph.D. in management? From what I've read, the 322 is better but I know a lot of business schools prefer the GMAT. I am applying to 5 schools and they all except either the GMAT or the GRE. I took the GRE without studying, but yet I studied for roughly a year before I took the GMAT and scored roughly 100 points below my average practice tests. (Side note- when I mean I really studied, I mean I was studying 5-6 hours a day for 6 months straight, 5 days a week... It became my job, literally.) I am not sure if my nerves got the best of me on the GMAT testing day but regardless, I did not score well. I made the last minute decision to take the GRE with no preparation and scored a 322. From what I've seen on GRE-GMAT conversion calculators, there is a BIG difference between the two.
Could anyone verify which is better for my admissions profile?
3 of my schools have both scores (GMAT and GRE) because I had to submit my applications for my recommenders before I took the GRE... however, I emailed 2 of the schools with my GRE score and they both confirmed it would be able to attach it to my application.
Will the fact that they do have the low GMAT score on file, work against my admission chances? Even if it shows I have a higher GRE score?
Does anyone have any suggestions about how to explain the discrepancy between my scores if I am lucky enough to be called for an interview? It's aggravating enough that I didn't perform to my true capabilities on the GMAT. If it was anxiety (which I don't think I was that anxious), I don't want to tell interviewers that, because it could look like I crumble under pressure... Which I do not in general. Unless its a test apparently.
If anyone has any further advice, please let me know.
