Dear All,
I appeared for my GMAT today, my 2nd attempt, and got a 710 Q50, V35. My IR score is 6. My previous score was 660 Q48 V33 with IR5. So in all I had an improvement of 50 points in 2 months. (I appeared for my 1st attempt exactly 2 months back on 23rd Sep). I'm trying to be a little enthusiastic about the improvement I made in my score but I, obviously, feel that I could have done much better. Maybe a 730 or 740. I want to know whether 710 is a competitive score for applying to top 50 universities. Other elements of my profile are good. I'm an engineer with a score of first division and distinction in my graduation. My work ex is fine I guess. I started as a GET and cos of my performance and requirement of the company I escalated to managerial position in 2.25 years. I'm still working full time and by the time I join a B school next fall I will have completed 3 years of full time work ex. My company is also well reputed. I will be able to manage LORs from international clients- Middle East and Europe. So do I bother myself with another attempt or go ahead with my applications?
Great job with the improvement in 2 months! In my opinion you have a stellar score for any top 50 school. You've checked the +700 box and proven to schools that you can handle the academic rigor given your Q50. Also GMAC says standard deviation is 30 points. If you're applying to H/W/S though then you
may want to consider the retake since those schools have a much higher average score. But anywhere outside of top 5 schools I think you're fine. you should focus on the rest of your app now. Just my 2 cents.
