I took the GMAT prep 1-4 and my verbal scores were in the range of 28-33. I used to guess last 5-6 question due to shortage of time.
I have taken the GMAT and i got the shock of my life.My score was 560 (Q48,V20).I am devastated but i will not give up.
I am planning to take the test again and i have one month of time.I have done five CATs of
MGMAT & 4 GMAT preps. My area of weakness is CR and RC in respective order.I have attained a comfortable level of scoring in SC but in the actual GMAT i was almost blank.
I am targeting a score of 750+ and i am getting the 47-48 scores in quant in the practice tests.I need to improve my verbal score to achieve my overall target score.
Presently i am referring the
MGMAT guides and
OG. Today i bought the Powerscore CR.
Please advise me a plan how to improve my verbal score to 45.
Your scores and the fact that you used to guess the last few questions demonstrate a clear lack on understanding of fundamentals.
1. Did you solve the mock CATs along with AWA and IR?
2. Did you guess some questions on the GMAT too?
You need to build the concepts/fundamentals before you jump in solving the problems. You can do so by choosing one of the following ways:
1. In person classes/private tutoring
2. Online classes
3. Self paced online preparatory course
4. Book heavy approach
Since you have already tried the book heavy approach, I would recommend you to opt for an online course or a private tutor. Because GMAT tests you on some concepts and fundamentals that you can learn from a course. Most of the preparatory companies including ours offer a free trial of our course. You can take the trial and see if the course suits your needs.
Our course comes with a 50 point score improvement or only back guarantee. This guarantee shows our confidence in our course.
In addition to the preparatory material, buy the Official Guides(both
the Official Guide and the Verbal Review), Question Pack 1 and the 4 official mock CATs. They should be an indispensable part of your preparation.
You need close to 3 months to prepare well for the GMAT.
1. Understand the concepts and fundamentals before jumping into problem solving
2. Make sure you solve the official questions from
the Official GuideIn addition, try to drill down deep on each problem type:
SC: The questions test various concepts such as S-V agreement, modifiers, parallelism etc. Find out what troubles you.
CR: There might be certain types of questions that are troubling you. May be Assumption, may be conclusion, inference etc.
You need to find that out and then practice them
RC: This again can be drilled down into different types of questions and also different topics. See what questions and topics trouble you the most and then practice accordingly.
Quants: Again try to break the questions in topics such as Algebra, Number system (very important), Geometry, PnC etc.
Also, start preparing an
error log and keep a note of all the mistakes you made and the lessons you learnt from the problems. This will ensure you do not make the same mistake again.
