|x-5| = 2|x-8|
x-5 = 2x - 16
x = 11
x - 5 = -2x + 16
x = 7
So the question is basically, is x = 7 or is x = 11?

1) |$$x^2$$-100| > 50
if x = 7, then 51 > 51 (Yes)
if x = 11, then 21 > 50 (No, and this breaks the statement, so we cannot use this value.)
So x = 7. Sufficient.

2) |$$x^2$$-49|=0
if x = 7, then |49-49| = 0
if x = 11, then |121-49| is not equal 0, so we cannot use this.
So, x = 7. Sufficient.
