Congrats on your admits!
Here’s the funny part, all MBA programs were online without access to any resources over the past two years 🥴
I know nothing about Gies… 😬
About the in person part, it’s a nice touch to meet your classmates. I’m not sure that I would pay $40,000 to see my classmates a couple times a year but it’s a nice touch. Access to recruiting event send other full-time events as promising and nice as it sounds, you probably will not make use of them. Most of them will be at an inconvenient time for you and not really designed for someone working full-time. Are you even in the local area to be able to participate? They wouldn’t really be worth flying in for and if you’re not looking to change your job, what’s the goal for the recruiting events? It’s nice to go and hear some speakers but you can also go to some motivational events or some serious business speakers who do seminars or honestly sign up for some fancy executive classes at Wharton or Columbia. There are some really famous professors teaching two week long classes. They don’t count for a credit but you can put them on your résumé. For example Wharton has a very famous negotiations program. It’s about 10 or $15,000 for a couple weeks which is expensive but it’s Wharton and it’s something to put on a resume, have in person interaction and expand your network as opposed to going to hear somebody speak…
While Questrom is not the strongest brand in the world, it doesn’t seem you’re trying to gain access to elite employers. The main advantage of the education besides a credential would be personal growth as well as network. Your classmate caliber would definitely be higher at UNC which is more or less the top and the oldest reputable MBA program … besides some of the recent addition of Berkeley and others adding a part-time online program.
By the way, your concentration doesn’t really matter. It seems like a good idea and it seems like it would mean some thing but it really doesn’t do a whole lot besides sort of require you to take certain classes. Employers usually don’t care if you have it and if you want a particular class, then choose a class but don’t worry about the concentration. Just fyi.
Some thing to consider is that likely UNC online experience is going to be more polished and superior just because they’ve been doing it longer than anyone else and addition they do have a top 20 business school so you will be treating off some of your experience but getting a degree for free is probably a better deal as long as you keep your expectations low and realize that you’re getting one for free so you really have no right to complain about anything 😇
