In the coordinate plane a slope of the line K is 4 times the y-intercept of the line K. What is the x-intercept of the line K?
A. -4
B. 4
C. -1/4
D. 1/4
E. 2

*An answer will be posted in 2 days.

Line equation

y = mx+c (m is the slope, c is the y intercept)

Given values, m= 4c

equation becomes
y = (4c)x+c

X intercept would be (Put y =0)

x = -(c/4c) = -(1/4)

C is the answer.

In the coordinate plane a slope of the line K is 4 times the y-intercept of the line K. What is the x-intercept of the line K?
A. -4
B. 4
C. -1/4
D. 1/4
E. 2

We can use the slope-intercept form of line, recalling that m is the slope and b is the y-intercept:

y = mx + b

Since m = 4b, we have:

y = 4bx + b

To find the x-intercept, we set y equal to zero:

0 = 4bx + b

0 = b(4x + 1)

0 = 4x + 1

-1 = 4x

-1/4 = x

Answer: C
