In the figure above, if angle PQR = twice angle STU, then x/y =

(A) 2/3
(B) 3/4
(C) 3/2
(D) 4/3
(E) 8/3

In steps:

4x = 2(3y)
4x = 6y

\(\frac{4x}{y}\) = \(\frac{6y}{y}\) => \(\frac{4x}{y}\) = 6

\(\frac{(\frac{4x}{y})}{4}\) = \(\frac{6}{4}\) =>

\(\frac{4x}{4y}\) = \(\frac{6}{4}\)

\(\frac{x}{y}\) = \(\frac{6}{4}\), or \(\frac{3}{2}\)

Answer C

PQX = 4x
Hence STU = 3y = 2x

Therefore x/y = 3/2
