Kwam,
I really appreciate the detailed advice.
In general, I've found US schools to be stingier with funding, perhaps due to the fact that a higher percentage of students are sponsored by the company as against other MS programs in the same school. Just my guess though - I don't know. I do know for a fact though, that I finished my MS degree in Engineering from Purdue with full financial aid and even a stipend of 1500$ a month. 90% of the students in Engineering were fully funded as well. This is true of most schools in the top 10.
However, the corresponding highly ranked MBA programs very rarely have that much funding.
Compared to Europe, I just do not know. It just seems to me (based on some data I have gleaned from various sites, admittedly some of it is unreliable) that top European schools hand out financial aid to a higher percentage of an entering class (not 100% aid to each student though) that a US school of comparable rank. I could be wrong.
By the way, I'm leaving out the lower ranked MBA schools in the US like MSU (Broad) that hand out full aid in terms of assistantships. They're ranked well below what I'm shooting for.
Comments anyone?
RK,
What exactly do you mean by "financial aid"? Fee Waiver? If thats the case, I don't think the situation is any different in Europe. From what I know, in top bschools only a very small % gets fee waiver/scholarship. Getting admitted into INSEAD/LBS/IMD is difficult enough, even without the financial aid part.
But if you mean loans, then I guess you'll have plenty to chose from both in US and Europe.
NOTE - INSEAD and Oxford-Said do NOT have a guaranteed loan program.
Cheers!
