x cannot be 3 for neither of the statements.

(1) (x - 4)(x - 3)/(x - 3) = 0 --> x = 4. x cannot be 3 because in this case the denominator becomes 0 and we cannot divide by 0.

(2) (x – 4)(x + 4) = 0 --> x = 4 or x = -4. So, x is not 3.

why isn't Statement 2 also sufficient,i.e. D
for statement 2 we know that x=-4 or 4 so it is confirmed that x is not equal to 3

Both sufficient independently.

Statement (1) x=3 would lead to a 0/0 problem which can not be equal to 0. as 0/0 is undetermined. => x is not equal 3
Statement (2) x= 4 or -4. X can not equal 3

Is \(x = 3\)?

Dear SajjadAhmad,
Please provide the OE if Ans is A or check the OA
Statement (2) x=4 or x=-4 hence x is NOT equal to 3 hence we have a definite NO. This should be sufficient too, unless I am missing something.
Statement (1) X cannot be 3 because denominator will become 0 hence Suff.

SajjadAhmad, I agree with stne that answer must be D.

(1) x is NEVER equal to 3 due to non-zero requirement for a denominator.
SUFFICIENT

(2) x=-4 or x=4. so, x is NEVER equal to 3.
SUFFICIENT.

Final answer is (D)

You are both right. Edited the OA. It's D, not A.

Why isn't it B ?
I didn't understand why will we get answer from A?

If x were 3 in (1), then we'd get something divided by 0, and anything/0 is undefined (division by 0 is not allowed). So, x is definitely not 3.
