Hello KSRiya, as you have not specifically mentioned the nature of company you work for, I am assuming from the role description that you belong to the over-represented Banking/ Healthcare IT sector. (Please correct me if this is not the case)
I strongly recommend you target 720+ to stay competitive in every aspect of your profile. Work experience does not seem to be the highlight from what you have mentioned, however, you must delve deeper into examples from your professional life where you demonstrated leadership skills, resolved conflicts within teams, expedited projects with your stakeholder management skills and contributed strongly to your team's progress. Thoroughly evaluated Post-MBA goals that resonate with your career trajectory so far will strengthen your case for ISB.

Your ECs are decent.

If you are looking for a consultant who can motivate you through the application process and really bring out the leadership "transferables" for B-School essays, then we should get on a call to discuss further.

Best wishes
KSRiya

Hello KSRiya,

Thanks for writing in.

You should target a score upwards of 720 to have a good shot. That said, no score is 'enough' and a lot will depend on how well you portray your story and strengths through the application essays. The following video may help:

https://www.expertsglobal.com/how-to-wr ... plications

Needless to say, try and apply in the first round provided you have the desired GMAT score.

All the best!

Hi All,

I am a master degree holder in Biotechnology from a UK University, followed by co-founding a start up company in hyderabad, in 2010. Since then, I have served my company in the capacity of Head/Director - Operations. The company is a CRO (Clinical Research Organisation), which basically provides various services for Pharmaceutical & Biotech Companies. Now I decided to pursue my long term goal of doing an MBA in ISB. I am currently ready to take my GMAT very shortly. But I am not sure if my entrepreneur profile suits the program and if yes, what is the GMAT score I must target? My academics are :
SSC - 86%
+2 - 86%
B.Tech - 70%
In total, I have around 5 years of experience in Operational and Business Development acitvities at my company. Any evaluation would be very much appreciated.

Hey biorevanth,

Your profile helps you stand out and can be a very interesting profile for ISB to consider if you portray it well. More importantly though, what is your goal and how does MBA from ISB fit into it? You will need to be very clear about your motivation for pursuing ISB. A simple statement such a pursuing long-term goals might not work out.

Hi Sonasur,

You'll have to work on improving the GMAT score to have a chance at ISB. It would also help to highlight some of the unique aspects about your profile/work-experience. It could also be voluntary work/hobbies you're passionate about. That might help you stand out. Otherwise it might be tough for you to get through.

Hi ,

Please evaluate my chances for ISB 2022 round 3 applications.

Xth - 10 CGPA
XII th - 89 percent
UG - BTECH computer science and engineering - 7.7CGPA/10
GMAT -700 ( Q-49, V-36)
Work experience - 2 years of work ex as a software engineer in a well known Computer Networks Company.

Applying for the round 3 applications for ISB.

Hello akkisuper,

Apologies for the delayed response but we hope this finds you in time still..

You haven't shared the details pertaining to your achievements at work and what your career goals are. The GMAT is definitely a tad lower than the average of the ISB class. However, we are not sure if a retake at this point is feasible for you. Therefore, focus on putting forth a set of essays that articulate your strengths and future goals in a compelling manner.

All the best!

Hello notanmfeapplicant

You have a pretty balanced profile (Acads, Work Ex, Extracurriculars) and good part is you have also started early.
GRE or GMAT does not matter as long as you are getting a good score. Your target score mentioned below will put you in a strong position.
Career goals is something I'd recommend you do a bit more research on whether it is a realistic feasible goal (especially IB) from ISB.
To build your profile, you may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Hi, please evaluate my profile!

Age: 22F, 24-25 at the time of applying

GMAT - in the range of 710-730, considering giving the GRE instead since its easier for me?

Undergrad Information - private uni in Mumbai. CGPA: 3.1/4, dual degree program with MBA in Tech Management and BTech in IT. MBA specialisation in finance and minor in business analytics.
12th - 74.6% (HSC)
10th - 85.6% (ICSE)

Work experience and leadership: 2 months web dev in digital payments, 4 months data analytics at a national digital payment solutions provider, 2 years of WE as a cybersecurity consultant at one of the Big4s, hope to make it to asst manager before I apply to Isb

Community and others: 60+ MUNs participated as a delegate, delegation lead, executive board member and organized. 5+ leadership roles at MUN organization in and outside of college. Projects include financial analysis and valuation of US retailer, comparative analysis of options pricing methods and technical indicator analysis. Proficient in Python, SQL, Excel, Tableau and PowerBI. Have certifications such as Google Data Analytics, Wharton Business Analytics, ISB Financial Markets, CFA Investments Foundation, considering giving the L1 too!

Post MBA goals: move into corporate finance at big tech (think FAANG) or IB, my backup is strategy consulting at MBB depending on if I like the consulting lifestyle. I want to ultimately make CFO/partner.

Why another MBA? - my current one is specialised and played to what I loved the most (Tech) and due to COVID, I could not derive the full value of my MBA (ala networking/case comps), another MBA gives me the opportunity to pivot to finance/strat consulting, I have corporate exposure to back up my career interest as opposed to going in doe-eyed into the job I am now.

What do you think? Is there anyway in which I can build my profile further?

Hello akkisuper

Limited information to completely assess your profile.
Past scores are decent, but the GMAT looks on the lower side especially considering the IT background.
Cannot comment on Work experience except that the work ex is on the lower side, no qualitative mention of company, career growth or achievements.
Also, cannot assess the clarity on career goals or whether you can compensate for your IT background through other areas of diversity or extracurricular.

Hello lowkeyanon

ISB will evaluate your profile on Academics, Work Ex, Diversity and Career Goals
Academics need to be supported with a 710+ (above the avg. of the school's score is recommended)
Work ex is on the lower side, the transitions need to be justified with conscious decision making, career progress and achoevemnts need to be highlighted and the move from proprietorship to B-School just 10 months into it needs to be clarified.
Diversity can come from Extracurriculars, which in your case seem dated and impact needs to be seen. Is there anything in the recent past?
Career goals is missing and cannot be evaluated.

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Hello gouram

Past scores are decent and try to score in the upper band of your GRE target as it will help you stand out in the large and competitive pool of IT applicants that you belong to.
Very little info to judge work ex, try to focus more on the qualitative aspects in the essays- career progress, accomplishments, business impact more than technical skills.
Extracurricular or any other aspects that can add diversity and help you stand out are missing.
On career goals, not sure how are you planning to make the transition from software to marketing- be prepared to show what existing skills and experience you have to make this switch successful.

Hello KSRiya

Work profile and extracurricular are strong and can even add some brownie points on diversity.
For GMAT, I'd recommend a 700+ that will put you in a strong position.
On career goals, I'll suggest you to be more specific- what role and companies are you targeting post MBA, what are your long term goals, what is your personal motivation behind these goals.
Lastly, I would say apply in R1 as you have enough time for the same.

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Hello Dementer

The extracurricular list is interesting, but the GMAT score is low for a software profile, I'll recommend you take it up to 710 or more if possible.
What are your career goals, they will be a major deciding factor in the success of the application.

Hello Ayush057

Profile is quite strong and work ex can even help you in diversity.
In your case, even a 680 can help you get in, but don't let that stop you from scoring higher. A 700+ will have you in a strong position.
Not sure if you have already applied, if not, my recommendation, looking at your work ex is to apply in R1 in 2022.

Hello Ayush057,

Thanks for your query.

You definitely have a strong profile as well as clarity in so far as your goals are concerned.

Having said that, you must definitely apply with a score of 710 and above. On a separate note, applying in Round 1, next year, is an option you must absolutely explore. It will allow you more time for everything - building your profile, working on essays, as well as applying with a good GMAT score.

All the best!
