Hi sarthakrn hope this finds you well

Your credentials are solid, with your experience at ZS(I assume healthcare/pharma) being a major highlight of your profile. It is important to showcase the impactful projects you've contributed to in a significant way and reflect on what you've learned. Maintaining a clear industry focus in your application will be crucial. As your post-PGP goals are centered around strategy consulting, it's imperative to demonstrate not only your strong analytical skills but also your ability to extract insights from unstructured information. Show your vision for your consulting goals and what you hope to accomplish in the long term after acquiring a range of business skills. The more comprehensive and thorough your application is, the better prepared you will be for the interview.

I have a successful track record of helping ISB aspirants secure admissions by coaching them not only on effective storytelling but also on industry-specific skills and insights.

Additional question
Do you think I can apply to some good international B-schools? if yes, please suggest some.

This would require a thorough discussion taking into account your professional background.
Feel free to reach out if you need guidance.

Your profile is strong in terms of work experience and education. The ZS brand plus the consulting role with some leadership experience are strong points. This is further strengthened by the awards received. Your GRE score is also a strength.

However, your extracurriculars and achievements are not as impressive as other aspects of your profile. This may be a challenge in your application to B-schools since they will specifically look for a well-rounded profile. You can look for international schools that value applicants with strong professional experience and may be more forgiving of weaker extracurriculars and achievements.

For ISB, to increase your competitiveness, you may consider highlighting any leadership or teamwork experiences from your work or other areas, as well as actively participating in any extracurricular activities or community activities. You can also showcase initiative through specific work instances. Strategy consultants work on the conceptual and analytical side of consulting, so if you can show skills in strategic thinking, problem-solving, and data analysis, it may be easier for you to justify the switch from implementation to strategy.

For a more detailed 1-1 strategy session, please write to [email protected] or fill the form at http://www.admitexpert.com

Good luck!

Hey sarthakrn,

You have a solid academic background, with a CGPA of around 8.2 and a good college. But it's important to keep in mind that there may be other applicants from well-known colleges like IIT and NIT. To stand out, highlight what sets you apart, such as your impressive GRE score and your work experience at ZS Associates. You can also raise your profile by showing what you do as a team leader and what strategies you use.

Make sure to quantify your extracurricular activities and achievements and show how they align with your goals. And if someone in your family or network has a business connection, use that to showcase your involvement beyond academics.

Your profile is decent, but it's important to work on your application to increase your chances of getting into a good college. MBA programs can give you diverse exposure to specializations like consulting, finance, marketing, and operations, and a good reference can certainly help boost your profile.

When it comes to applying, the country you're interested in will determine your options. In the US, Canada, and UK, you have plenty of good options, like London Business School, Imperial College, HEC in France, and Cornell in the US.

If you need more help, we'd be happy to set up a call and give more pointers on how to improve your profile and the right schools you should target.

Your assessment is fairly accurate.

Why do you feel your achievements at work are sub-par? Projects, responsibilities, etc. count just as much (if not more) than awards and other such formal recognition. I am sure you are more accomplished than you are suggesting.

For international MBAs with your goals in mind, you should start by looking at the following programs:

Duke (Fuqua), HEC Paris, Northwestern (Kellogg), Michigan (Ross) and MIT (Sloan)

If you can provide any information on preferences or criteria for programs, that would help us even more. Alternatively, please reach out for a free consultation so we can better understand your background and tell you more about our consulting services:

Hey Gaurav, hope all is well. I believe the volunteering/community development angle in your profile can be a good recurring theme that you can talk about in the 1st essay (your value add to the ISB cohort). Also, your 4 years long work-ex in fintech can be used to form a good narrative for the goals essay (the 2nd essay) and can be aligned with your short term goal (if it's product management or growth/strategy roles). Narrative can be built because you have the right raw ingredients for the same. Talking about fundamentals like academics, can't see a spike there. Not forcing you to retake the gmat but if you can and score a 720 or a higher score, it will definitely make the profile more competitive.

Hi Gaurav,

You have the scope of a potentially strong story in terms of your work experience and volunteering experience. Academically, your grades are also good. In case you are preparing for the GMAT and want to reattempt it once more, that would be a good idea. Although 700 is not a road block, a higher GMAT will always add value to your credentials.

If you have already researched your goals, you can see if there's any additional education that you can add in your profile. This would help you show a strong preparation towards achieving your goals.

All the best!

Everything else looks good so you don't need to push yourself on any part other than your short-term and long-term goals and your interview skills.
I believe that if you prepare a good story for essays then you can definitely fetch a call based on your credentials. hence good interview skills will be detrimental.

Also, if you can improve your GMAT score then certainly you will be improving your chances, as ISB is a heavily GMAT focussed school but even 700 is a decent score so consider giving attention to improving your GMAT only if you feel there is a strong possibility to get a favorable result.

Decide a target employer after ISB and enhance your skills from an employability perspective because that might help you justify your case during the interview.

For any further suggestion or help you may reach me through my easily available contact detail.

All the best! :)

Hi gaurav hope this finds you well

I am very impressed with your profile overall. Experience in growth strategy, operations, and the product is a top-tier pre-MBA experience, and your undertakings put you on a fast-track trajectory.

I am equally impressed by your volunteering initiatives. Lots of potential for storytelling there as well.

I would advise you to focus on improving your GMAT score as that could lead to a borderline miss in case it comes down to stats at the end of admissions decisions.

You did not mention your goals.
Avoid presenting a generic profile with overused post-MBA goals statements.
Remember, the admissions committee will have a long memory of earlier applicants who have stated consulting or product/ MAANG goals.

You need to look hard at your long-term motivations and map out a short- and medium-term path that excites you. If you want to stand out, consider your long-term vision and what ambitious and inspiring goals you would set to make your short-term trajectory plausible. To show that you have thought through your goals, consider what hard and soft skills you have acquired in your past experiences and what areas you would like to improve. If you want to work long-term in a different industry, consider what new skills are needed to make that change.

Outline the full future plan in your essays to demonstrate that you are conscientious in your decision-making. An outstanding candidate provides Plan A and B and backs up both plans with relevant insights from networking with alums, possible recruiters, and industry experts.

Feel free to reach out should you need guidance.

Aspiring powerlifter. Planning to enter local competitions early next year after complete recovery from injury

Goal: Plan is to continue to work in Germany in a full time position for the next two years and hopefully then join ISB as a PGP student (if YLP application is successful). Post graduation goal is to enter management consulting and then eventually exit to operations/finance managerial roles later on in my career.

I am concerned that my GRE score is not competitive. Would it make sense to take up the GMAT to boost my chances of getting selected?

Most likely you are not eligible for YLP as you have a gap between your bachelors and masters degree. It would be best to check your eligibility with ISB admissions team.

Hey Anmol, hope all is well.

Interesting profile with respect to the recurring sports angle (internship + football team + sports club), would recommend to definitely highlight this if possible in your application (assuming your passion is sports or something adjoining). With respect to your GRE score, the average acceptance GRE at ISB is close to this (326-329). It's right at the centre of the curve. That being said, GRE is not the only deciding criterion as you would understand. Evaluation is composite in nature. What's a little worrying for me is no full-time work-ex post college. Now there is no right or wrong answer to this, but if i were in your shoes, with the exact same profile, I would consider re-writing the exam (GRE/GMAT), just to make it more competitive (and compensate for the lack of full time work experience). That would be helpful in increasing the overall likelihood of getting an interview invite (in addition to well-crafted essays and a good LOR).

Hello,

Responding to your query: I am concerned that my GRE score is not competitive. Would it make sense to take up the GMAT to boost my chances of getting selected?

GMAT or GRE are test scores which add value to your academic evaluation. In terms of choosing a test, it is fair to understand that the schools don't have favourites. Whatever test you choose check on the following two points:

a) Which is the test where you can score the highest - GMAT or GRE? If it is the GMAT, go ahead and write it.
b) Is the score which is your highest, above the target school average, for eg. 326 on the GRE and 710 on the GMAT. If you score close or higher, then peak it to your best and get to the other parts of the application.

This would be sufficient to rest the case for the test score part. Once you have addressed the questions above to your satisfaction, its time to start working on your story. The school really means it when they say that they consider a lot of aspects, not just the test scores. Focusing on communicating all aspects strongly would be important to boost your chances of being selected.

All the best!
