Dear MeherAbhijeet,

Please find below our analysis of your profile.

GMAT Score: Below Average

Academics: Above average; a post grad gives you some advantage

Work Experience: Lower than average; 1.5 years while applying is on the lower side of the spectrum as far as ISB is concerned. While your SE Asia Consulting stint (assuming you were in the advisory practice at Accenture) demonstrates that you can perform in a multicultural environment and hence will be easily able to contribute to your cohort at ISB, the sheer low volume of experience combined with a low GMAT score hampers your chances. Also, I don’t see a tangible leadership stint in your professional career. You will need to spin up leadership stories.

Extra Curriculars: Above Average; maintaining a personal blog shows the creative side of your personality and the fact that you learnt a foreign language shows your commitment to the culture where you are working right now.

Overall, I would suggest you to bump your score by 20 points and then apply. Alternatively, you can gain 1 more year of experience and then apply with the same score.

I am an ISB alum, CO15, and have been guiding applicants in their admission journeys for last 6+ years. Feel free to set up a pro bono profile evaluation detailed session with me by signing up at https://www.crackadmission.com/contact-us/

Cheers and wish you all the very best !

Hey MeherAbhijeet,

I hope you are doing well. You have a strong profile and stand a good chance of being competitive for admission to the Indian School of Business (ISB). Your academic achievements, including your high GPAs in both B.Tech and M.Tech, as well as your All India Rank in GATE, demonstrate your strong academic background. This will be viewed very positively by ISB. While your GMAT score of 690 is decent, it falls slightly below the average GMAT score at ISB. However, it's still within a competitive range, and your other strengths can compensate for this.

Although you have relatively less work experience than some applicants, your 1.5 years of work experience at Accenture, especially in the Tokyo office, is valuable. International experience can set you apart and bring diversity to the ISB classroom. Having a first-author research paper in an international machine learning conference is a significant accomplishment and demonstrates your academic and research capabilities.

Your achievements in Model United Nations (MUN), your language certification in Japanese, and your personal blog showcasing your interest in poetry and research analysis highlight your diverse interests and skills.

Given your relatively limited work experience, make sure to showcase the impact and achievements you've had during your time at Accenture. Focus on how your experiences have prepared you for an MBA and your future career goals. Be clear in your application about your post-MBA career goals and how an MBA from ISB will help you achieve them. Connect your past experiences and skills to your future plans.

Overall, you have a competitive profile for ISB, and you should certainly consider applying. ISB values diversity, and your international work experience and academic accomplishments can set you apart. Make sure to craft compelling essays and secure strong letters of recommendation to strengthen your application. Highlight how you will contribute to the ISB community and how their program aligns with your goals. With a well-rounded application and strong interview performance, you have a good chance of being admitted to ISB.

Good luck with your application!

We offer a limited number of complimentary profile evaluations each week. We match you with the students and alums of top B-Schools according to your background and target schools. Hello munindra95,

I hope you are doing well. Your profile appears strong and well-rounded, and you have made significant accomplishments in your career and academic pursuits. You have a solid academic foundation, including a respectable GMAT score of 730 and a GATE All India Rank of 90. Your performance in the 10th and 12th grades also demonstrates consistency.

Your extensive work experience of 7 years and 1 month at IOCL, particularly in operations management, is a significant asset. Managing a team of 35 subordinates, coordinating a successful plant shutdown, providing cost-saving suggestions, and commissioning a significant project demonstrate leadership and impact in your role. Your experience in the energy sector aligns well with your short-term goal of becoming a consultant in the field of energy and sustainable development. Your achievements and responsibilities at IOCL showcase your expertise in this domain.

Your participation in lawn tennis tournaments, your role as a marketing executive at your college's technical fest, and your quiz win indicate your involvement in extracurricular activities and leadership capabilities. Publishing articles in small journals during college and presenting a paper on plastic waste conversion into liquid fuel demonstrate your academic engagement and problem-solving skills.

It's worth addressing why your previous application with a 700 GMAT score was rejected. Consider what feedback, if any, you received and how you can strengthen your application this time around. Be sure to articulate your career goals clearly in your application, especially how an MBA from ISB will help you achieve your short-term goal of becoming a consultant in the field of energy and sustainable development.

Overall, your profile looks competitive for ISB's MBA program. To increase your chances of admission, focus on crafting compelling essays that showcase your unique experiences, achievements, and how you'll contribute to the ISB community. Additionally, strong letters of recommendation highlighting your strengths can bolster your application. Make sure to address any shortcomings from your previous application and emphasize how you've grown and improved since then.

Good luck with your application!

Hi scrantonstrangler,

Overall profile looks good. Here's my assessment of the 3 elements,

Acads/GMAT Undergrad scores are average to above average range. Gmat is fine for the level of experience you have. The question is- is this your best shot and if not, can you improve by another 10-30 points? It'll go a long way in further enhancing your candidature. You can work on your application in parallel. 700 is absolutely worth a shot either way.

Work-ex and goals This is your strong suite. Especially the EY experience. There's a lot you can talk about in the application through your experiences managing large projects. Few ISB alums have been a part of similar roles in the past so in a way, it is a post-MBA role already. Hence, the goals discussion would be very important. In general, MBBs will recruit every one at the same level (e.g. JA at McK) regardless of the relevance of their experience but the growth path might be slightly accelerated for you if you continue in say, the Metals & Mining practice there. My recommendation would be to show that you want to grow in a similar area given your experience.

Extra-curricular you've continued to do your bit after college as well and that's a good thing. You can directly link your experience to the Net Impact Club and Toastmaster's at ISB.

All the best! Feel free to reach out if you have any queries.

Cheers,
Manan

Hi munindra95,

Your chances of receiving an interview invite are high due to -
1. Consistently good academic track record and well-recognized UG college.
2. Above average GMAT score; improvement shown as a reapplicant
3. Well-rounded personality- extra-curriculars + work experience

Obviously, lot depends on your essays and articulating your improvements as a reapplicant.

On the interview preparation, we've noticed a common challenge with lot of applicants: even post submitting their applications, many struggle with interview questions and lack a clear plan for preparation. Therefore, we suggest you first start by jotting down a comprehensive set of relevant Qs. Introspect and identify key points that you would want to highlight as answers to these Qs. Once you have an idea of key points, participate in multiple mock interview sessions to fine-tune your answers.

We help applicants with the end-to-end interview preparation process (including mock interview sessions). For more information, kindly connect with us for a 15-minute free session through- https://calendly.com/reachusfly/15min/

All the best and hope this helps. We are a bunch of ISB alums who help potential ISB candidates with profile positioning, essay reviews and interview preparation.

With warm regards,
Team Fly

Hello scrantonstrangler

You have a pretty balanced profile.
Academic Potential (past scores are decent, though GMAT is just shade below the average of the class), Work experience is strong (good potential for story telling with interesting career progress and achievements along with some international exposure), Diversity is helped by your extracurricular activities and industry (make sure you prove in your essays how these extracurricular activities will help you add value the experience of your batchmates inside and outside the classroom). Career goals is the only place where you need to pick a direction- Operations is vastly different from Management Consulting. Also, research a bit more on the career choice (wrt to Consulting)- what thata career entails, what is needed to get in (for example some companies look at high GMAT scores also). Operations of course is an organic choice (but only if you want to do it) and you should pick a single direction (for essays/interviews at least) to present a leader with clarity of thought.

Hello austin316,

Thanks for writing in.

You have a strong academic background and your professional experience is both diverse and meaningful. ZS will be a good brand to showcase and the start-up experience will help you add a number of talking points to your essays.

We see two areas of improvement:
-Goals: You need to be more specific about what you want; "gaining experience in product and business" does not sound very focused. The long-term goal also needs to say more (and, if you are looking at starting your own business, you need to have some sort of clarity about it).

-GMAT: Your existing GMAT score does not do justice to your overall case; with the ISB R2 in December, you do have some time to improve your score; a score in excess of 710 on the GMAT will give you a good chance of bagging an interview call; needless to say, the higher the score the better it is going to be for you.

Should you wish to discuss your prospects in detail, please feel free to get in touch with us for a profile evaluation session.

All the best!

Hello austin316,

I hope you are doing good. Your profile for the ISB Class of 2025 is strong in many aspects, and you have a good chance of securing admission. Your consistently high academic performance, including your ranks in SSC, HSC, and your GPA at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, reflects your strong academic foundation, which is highly valued by top business schools. While a GMAT score of 680 is decent, it's slightly below the average GMAT score at ISB. You may want to consider retaking the GMAT to improve your score if you have the time and resources to do so

Your work experience, particularly in data analysis for a unicorn startup and as a business analyst at ZS Associates, demonstrates a strong foundation in business and analytics. This diverse experience will be valuable in the MBA classroom. Emphasize the impact you made in your roles as a Data Analyst and Business Analyst. Highlight leadership experiences, particularly if you've led teams or projects that had a significant impact on your organization. Given your switch from a multinational consulting company to a startup in the crypto space, emphasize how this transition broadened your perspective and skills.

Your involvement in launching a website for international relations, organizing a large college fest, and participating in CSR activities showcase leadership and teamwork skills. Your achievements in inter-school quiz competitions and the point one percentile certificate are additional assets. Your career goals are clear and aligned with the MBA program's objectives. Your desire for better exposure and a stronger network are valid reasons for pursuing an MBA, and these goals can be highlighted in your application essays. Explain how you have utilized your networking skills and connections in your current role and how you plan to leverage the ISB network.

While you have strong extracurricular involvement, ensure that you convey the depth and impact of your activities in your application essays. Your interests in playing the guitar and reading the newspaper daily can add a personal touch to your application, showcasing your well-rounded personality.

Overall, with a strong application that effectively communicates your achievements, career goals, and why ISB is the right fit for you, you stand a good chance of gaining admission to the ISB Class of 2025. Be sure to invest time crafting your essays and preparing for interviews, as these elements are crucial in the selection process.

Good luck with your application!
