Hey! Just received my acceptance to Ivey and I'm excited to be part of the class of 2022. I'm happy to answer any questions anyone might have.

For the video essay, the two questions I had were "tell me about a time you failed?" and "what's something you're not good at?".

Hi! Fellow Canadian. I plan on re-taking my GMAT since it is low, and I hope to land in tech consulting.
I'm at home a lot because of COVID and thinking of retaking the GMAT.

I have extensive experience in the Toronto Tech Startup community (2 years) and in research/development (3 years). Founded my own not for profit in Toronto, lot's of leadership experience.

Any advice for someone like myself who has a low GMAT? Am nervous.

Hey!

Don't think you should fret about the GMAT for a few reasons: (Would help if you could share your current score):
1) GMAT is one of the many data points that they would look at. A lot of the other factors matter equally as well. Trust me, I have a 660 and I fall under a common pool (Indian + Male).
2) Having been part of the startup ecosystem myself, for the last 6 years, I know that the learning is immense. Its easily 5+ years of experience and learning in any other domain, relatively. Make sure this comes across in your essays and application.
3) Running your own non-profit has a LOT of value. Worth its weight in gold, almost.
4) Ivey looks at learnability + leadership + impact/value you can create. Tailor this well enough, and I think you should be good to go.

If you haven't already, you should submit your profile for assessment and check with the team as to what they think about your profile. You can ask them straight up if the GMAT would be a concern. Worst case scenario, if incase they do decide to take things ahead and you clear all rounds, and in a case where its you versus another student and the only deciding factor would be the GMAT - they'll probably ask you to take it again - before the offer can be released.

Would highly recommend you work on some kickass essays, and a well done application. You should be good!

Cheers.

Hi thank you so much for replying! You make some great points for me to look into.

I completely agree on the startup experience. We learn a lot in a short period of time, and have to deal with a lot of uncertainty.

I'll have a chat with the team to see what they think of my profile.

Hey guys!

Realized that there wasn't a thread for the 2021 intake for the full-time Ivey MBA program. Submitted my application on the 5th of January 2020. R1 Deadline was Jan 6th.

Sharing future deadlines for the others:

Application Round Deadline
Round 1 January 6, 2020
Round 2 April 6, 2020
Round 3 July 13, 2020
Round 4* September 21, 2020
Round 5 November 9, 2020
Round 6 January 4, 2021

Sharing my feedback on the application process:

  • Video Essay - Pretty straightforward. You have unlimited attempts at the practice questions. You get 2 questions randomly out of a pool of about 150 questions. My questions were - "What is the one thing about yourself that you haven't shared with us in the application" and "What would you do if a team member stopped responding to your calls? How would you respond to that?"
  • The written essays seemed simple but it is a challenge to crisp this out to 250 words. You'll really know how little 250 words is, when you're writing this.
  • If you've done your schooling and under graduation in English - PLEASE WRITE THE ELPT NOTE. I've seen many folks writing IELTS Academic/TOEFL for this. You don't have to if you can convince them that English has been your mode of communication during both academia and professional journies.

Would love to hear about interview invites/dates etc from the others applying for this intake.

Hey Suraj,

Thanks for sharing the details of your experience. It will be more helpful if you may want to talk about scholarship. How did you manage to answer the questions regarding financing your MBA?

Is it necessary for an indian candidate to appear for IELTS or TOEFL for Ivey or is there a workaround? As I have heard from few indian candidates that its not necessary to do so

Hello

If your medium of education was English then you are exempt from appearing for IELTS/TOEFL.

There is a section in the application where you can mention this.

But IELTS is necessary when you'll apply for visa. In any which case you'll have to appear for IELTS or TOEFL and I think if you're applying for your visa from India (via SDS) then you're only required to give IELTS.

Hey,

In general, before asking a question, you may go over the previous posts in this topic as not only one of them explicitly already sheds light on this matter but many provide you with valuable information and advice. Nevertheless, as far as I know, the admission team is not quite strict about an English language test and may exempt you from it given that you somehow prove your excellency in English language. (i.e your job already requires you to have necessary English language skills or you majored in a field in which English was the main language.)

Yet, if possible, I strongly recommend you to take the TOEFL or IELTS since you may need it to apply for other universities' MBA programs just in case.

Best of luck.

You do not HAVE to give the IELTS. You can apply for a waiver by explaining how your mode of education + work experience has been in English. That should suffice. What will also help is if you've been in touch with someone from the Ad-Com - have those calls with them when they offer them, they'll then be aware of your communication skills and it should go through.

Having said that, you will have to give IELTS regardless, when it comes to the visa process.

Ivey Business School does NOT come under the SDS program. There is a list of colleges which fall under this bucket - https://www.canamgroup.com/country/list ... -in-canada

Hey Suraj,

Thanks for sharing the details of your experience. It will be more helpful if you may want to talk about the scholarship. How did you manage to answer the questions regarding financing your MBA?

Scholarship - Pretty straightforward and cut out. They look for academia + contribution to society + leadership. Ensure that this comes out very clearly in your essays. If there is a definite need for the scholarship, do mention that in the box they've given you on the application.

Financing - won't be too big a deal or a deal-breaker. You can mention half and half (Loan + your own funds + funds from parents). This has NOTHING to do with your visa application or finances for the visa at all. This won't be considered there at all. This is for their reference.

Women also have a bunch of other scholarships as well - Check Ivey's website out.

Congratulations, again!

Hahah, glad I could help in some way or the other.

Well the Slack group is the only place we have. Apparently used to be a FB group/page up until last year, and this is the first year that they're trying out Slack. I quite love it.

Cheers.

Hi! I’m applying for the Ivey MBA program for the 2021 intake and I had a question for the ones who’ve submitted the application. There’s a component in the scholarship section that’s a mandatory requirement and it says ‘Financial Plan’

Can anyone please help me understand what exactly needs to be mentioned in that tab? Do we need to provide information about how we are going to be covering the finances?

Thank you!
