Jennifer bought two houses for $300,000 which can be split as:
House1(H1) = $x
House2(H2) = $(300000-x)

Monthly return on H1 = 0.015x
Yearly return on H1 = 12*0.015x = 0.18x

Monthly return on H2 = 0.02*(300000-x)
Yearly return on H2 = 12*0.02*(300000-x) = 72000 - 0.24x

Total yearly return on both houses :
61200 = 0.18x + 72000 - 0.24x
x = 180000
Money spent on H1 = x = 180000
Money spent on H2 = (300000 - x) = 120000

Ans : Opt B

Let –
Apt A = x
Apt B = y

From the question, we know that –

Equation 1:
x + y = 300,000

Equation 2:
(1.5x/100 +2y/100) * 12 = 61,200

Simplifying the second equation –
[(1.5x+2y)/100] * 12 = 61,200
1.5x+2y = 61,200*100/12
1.5x+2y = 5100*100 = 510,000

Solving for x and y –

x + y = 300,000 ----(1)
1.5x+2y = 510,000 ---- (2)

2x + 2y = 600,000
1.5x+2y = 510,000

2x-1.5x = 600,000-510,000
.5x = 90,000
x = 180,000

“x” is Apt A and “y” is Apt B

y = 120,000

Answer is B.
