Hi Guys.. Anyone driving to Ithaca on 16th for R2 interview?

Any idea if on campus interviews are mostly conducted by Adcom members or Senior Students?

Interviews are done by both. Second year students from the Johnson Admissions Group (JAG) are trained by adcom to deliver interviews.

Goodluck!

Cornell Tech will open its new 12-acre Roosevelt Island campus in summer 2017, in part due to a recent $50 million gift from Verizon which will go towards the innovative Verizon Executive Education Center.

According to the Cornell Tech press release, “The center will be a place for the entire tech community to gather, a convening place to leverage the impact the campus has on technology beyond its degree programs. The center will be part of the first phase of the campus, which began construction last month and is due to open in the summer of 2017.”

The center in particular and Verizon’s involvement in general will not just help contribute to active technological innovation, but will “facilitate direct collaboration with other companies and Cornell Tech students to bring cutting-edge ideas to market.” It will facilitate cross-sector learning – for students, corporations, and customers, and will increase the number of internships, full-time positions, and scholarships for Cornell Tech students.

Lowell McAdam, Verizon Chairman and CEO, says: “Our donation to Cornell Tech is an investment in the future and fits perfectly with our mission to use communications technologies to solve big challenges and make people’s lives better. The Verizon Executive Education Center will be a magnet for developers, entrepreneurs, educators and innovators across all industries, building on the great talent and creativity we already have in the tech sector here in New York City.”

Cornell University’s Johnson School of Graduate Management has officially launched a redesigned curriculum for the two-year MBA program that emphasizes collaboration, leadership, and analytical skills to better prepare students for a technology-driven global business environment.

The curriculum, now being fully rolled out to the Class of 2016, includes redesigned coursework and programming in the three areas:

Modeling and Decision Analysis: An enhanced required course, Data Analytics and Modeling, takes students beyond statistics, to data modeling and Big Data techniques and strategies. Modeling is woven into other courses to help students develop the analytical skills needed in all areas of business.

Personal and Leadership Skills: Every Johnson student progresses through a targeted curriculum in leadership consisting of the proprietary Johnson 360° Leadership Assessment, coursework, case exercises, teamwork, hands-on leadership experience, coaching, and customized programming.

The personalized program begins in the pre-term, with individual assessment and feedback, and continues through the first year, with the Leading Teams Practicum, and second year with Principled Leadership. Marquee leadership instructors teach intensives on leadership topics. These classes are enriched with a menu of Leadership Skills workshops and Leadership Expeditions that span the entire program.

Integrative and Critical Thinking Skills: In their first semester of MBA study, students learn and practice critical thinking skills, with a focus on analyzing, integrating, and synthesizing information for optimal decision making, in the face of challenges, such as incomplete, inaccurate, or ambiguous information.
Our new curriculum reflects industry and research trends in leadership, collaborative teamwork, and data analytics, explains Vishal Gaur, associate dean for MBA programs. Gaur says the changes will expose students to  fresh ideas and creative, team-oriented problem solving approaches.
Johnson embarked on a comprehensive, two-year review of curriculum and learning priorities in 2011. An extensive data-collection effort included student and alumni focus groups, peer benchmarking, and surveys of students, alumni, corporate recruiters, faculty, and staff. The process reached more than 1,000 participants from the last 12 MBA class years.

Among the innovative elective courses being introduced:
  • The Art of Innovation: A Design Thinking Immersion and Making Design Thinking Work. These hands-on courses prepare MBAs to be future innovators by teaching them the human-centered design methodology known as Design Thinking.
  • Core Leadership Skills for a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous)World, with retired U.S. Army General George Casey. This course builds on the skills acquired in earlier components of the leadership program, through discussion and interaction with an experienced practitioner and former leader of the United States Army.
  • Johnson’s FinTech Trek and Hackathon. Students convene at Cornell Tech in New York City to learn about disruptive technologies facing the financial industry and develop relevant solutions. The experience culminates in a hackathon, in which participants have about 24 hours to develop financial products or services that meet a real business need. Similar classes are planned, each focusing on a different industry.
“Business education requires continuous improvement, as well as big jumps.” Gaur says. “As we implement the new Johnson curriculum, we are also thinking of the next educational innovations that will leverage the strengths of Cornell’s two campuses.”

Hi All-

I was asked to go to Sage Hall Room 111. Not sure if that holds for all candidates. They may interview in different rooms? Best to drop by Admissions when you get to Sage.

Nope, mine wasn't with her. Though I felt she was almost speaking to a script. Looks like Johnson has a very structured approach for the way the 2nd years interview.

Hello everyone. 45 mins Skype interview with a 2nd year. Hope my experience might be useful to someone.

1. She introduced herself briefly and outlined the entire structure of the interview
2. Questions included- Walk me through your resume, why MBA/why now, short term/long term goals
3. Moved onto behavioral questions (2)- One instance of challenge faced at work, one instance where you changed a decision for a senior, one instance where you innovated at work, one instance of a team conflict and how you handled it.
4. Moved to why Johnson and what can you bring to Johnson
5. Any questions for me?
6. Which Business Schools are you applying to?

Highly conversational and comfortable setting. Some technology glitches from the interviewers side but it wasn't bad enough to interrupt the experience.

All the best.

is it Kati that interviewed you? the questions for you sounded a lot like mine.

This might be a little too late to matter, but I was told to go to something in the 200's I think. I agree that you should just drop by admissions and get it sorted out there.

As far as parking, drop by one of the visitor kiosks (I think there is one down the street a little ways, outside of Carpenter Hall on Campus Road) and get a visitor parking pass for like $10. Then go park in the parking garage right next to Schoellkopf Field on Hoy Road. If you don't want to spend the $10 and don't mind walking a little more you could also park on one of the streets in Collegetown. Some of them are free to park if you can find a spot.

Hi, if you drive to the campus, you can see some small watch-houses, indicating VISITOR PARKING INFORMATION. Tell the person you are perspective student and visiting Johnson, and they will give a parking permit, which allows you park in a garage with no charge for a day. Good luck and safe drive!

First, congrats to the Johnson School, moving up to the sweet 16 spot! Time to share my on campus interview experience.

Interviewed with a second year student. Nothing they asked really caught me off guard. Had a more casual tone and feel, but definitely be prepared. My interviewer was very friendly, and since I was the last interview he had for the day, he let me go over time a little bit while asking him some questions about personal and family life at Johnson.

Since there seems to be confusion about logistics in this thread, I got instructions when I scheduled the interview - go to room 111 (go through the main doors, across the atrium, and it will be to your right, really easy to find and Johnson students seemed very happy to talk to prospective students if you need any help). Try to get there as early as you can. Check to see if you can schedule an info session and a class visit, even if you've already done one before (registration is online). The info session I wanted was full, but I was able to grab an open spot. That extra time to familiarize yourself with the school on the day of helps a lot. Interviews are stressful by nature, but Johnson does a pretty good job of making candidates feel comfortable.
