Thank you for this advice, which other material for improving the score can be looked into.

Hi,
I'm sorry to hear that you have experienced a lot of disturbances. What materials have you gone through in the meantime?

Hi Mariner07,
Your verbal score seems fine and you are able to secure more point in quant. What materials have you finished in the first attempt?

Thanks!

Hi,

Yes, actually I chose to give verbal first since I was a little bit more confident in Quant, Exam started smoothly but after every two to three questions, I faced a situation where I was not able to click the option I selected Immediately. I have to move the arrow around the option and keep on trying and after 3-4 seconds It got selected. And then while I was at question 22 with 19 min in hand my system hung. The Proctor was able to hear me though so the problem was only with the exam browser. However, I had lost appox 2 min before we decided to restart the system. And then My system went to repair mode.

After restarting the exam, the hanging occurred quite often and after every 2-3 questions it hung for 5-7 seconds with screen freeze. This continued throughout the exam and even in AWA Section, It was evident. I have to wait for the sentence to appear on the screen after typing it , so had no idea what I have typed is correct or not. It only appeared after 2-3 seconds.

On average, I lost some 4-5 Mins in the scoring section due to these glitches. As evident, they have a compounding effect and show in my poor score in Quant.

For Materials I used TOP GMAT notes with VR and QR ( Latest)

Hi Mariner07,

I'm sorry to hear about the technical issues that you faced during your Official GMAT. That must have been incredibly frustrating - and likely did impact your overall performance. Were you given any 'steps' from the Moderator about how you should proceed (and were you given a 'case number'?)? You should absolutely lodge a formal complaint about this - although you might have to wait several weeks while your situation is investigated. From what you describe, there's a reasonable chance that you would receive a free retest.

In the interim, you should continue to study though. Before I can offer you any advice in that regard, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi Rich,

Thanks for the much-needed specialist advice. Stated below, are the replies

1) It will be 6 months now since I decided to give GMAT a serious shot and started studying. Typical study time per day would be 2 hrs/ day corresponding to 14-16 hrs a week.

2) I got enrolled with TOP GMAT institute on the advice of a friend, who went to do an MBA from MIT SLOAN. I had only limited myself to GMAT PREP mocks and have given 4 GMAT PREP Mocks.

3) First Mock i took in Mid Nov and scored a 690 with V-40 and Q-44
Second in Dec and scored a 700 with V-39 and Q-47
Third Mock I gave in Jan and scored 710 with V 38 and Q 48
Fourth and last Mock I gave on 2nd Feb and scored V 38 and Q 49 with a score of 710 . This was taken in full test environment with IR also attempted. All others were briefed where I skipped the section of IR.

4) My Goal Score is -730-750

5) I am Planning to appear for this year's intake process and start my MBA by next year latest.

Thanks

Hi Mariner07,

I'm sorry to hear about how things went with your GMAT. Regarding resources, in addition to seeking advice in this thread, take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant and verbal courses, and also read through some GMAT success stories to see what materials have worked well for other test-takers.

You also may find it helpful to read this article about how to score a 700+ on the GMAT.

Good luck!

Hey Mariner07,

I read your experience and can't say this is the first time I hearing something like this. I think what is important to understand here is the impact of disruption when you are in a test environment.

Any test, whether it's the GMAT or the CAT does not always go according to plan. Just like life right? However, making the best of what you have is something that you control and no one else. The test in some way affected your decision-making ability in Quant where you found yourself with no time - is that your true ability? No, I don't think so. Even with these disruptions, you managed a solid V35 and in better circumstances would certainly have scored a 680+

Where do you go from here then?

I want you to take some time and reassess your baseline - irrespective of the material. Right now all you need is some confidence in your ability :)

Take a Sigma-X Mock: https://success.e-gmat.com/Sigma-X-Mock

If you have anything you want to talk about or feel uncertain about, feel free to reach out on this thread.

PS - I have worked with 5-6 Top 1 Percent students, I think I know how to help you.

Regards,
Dhananjay(DJ)
