Hi,

timing is actually an issue in your case because if you pace out the 10 and 20 minute in V and Q, you will have higher accuracy -> higher score.
If you would like an accurate input on your study plan, let us know your score breakdown by V/Q subsection.

Additionally, you should take the GMATPrep CAT from mba.com and buy exam pack 1. GMATPrep is made by the actual GMAT test makers and uses the same scoring algorithm as the actual exam. It provide the most accurate measure of your current performance. Buying the exam pack will give you access to a full score breakdown by subsection/question type. Getting an accurate analysis at the start will save you a lot of time and energy in the long run.

Best,
Jae

Thanks Jae! I had already posted the Q and V score breakdown above. Is there a further breakdown to those scores that are required?

I have downloaded the tests from mba.com but I am saving those for a bot later once I have done some studying.

Hi tittoo,

A 590 is a strong 'baseline' score (the average score on the Official GMAT hovers around 540-550 most years). In addition, since you 'rushed' through the Quant and Verbal sections, it stands to reason that you could have scored higher IF you had slowed down, taken more notes, been more careful with your work, etc. With a potential mid-August Test Day, you have about 2.5 months of study time, which is good. Now we just need a better sense of whether your current study materials will be enough to get you to your score goal or not. As such, I suggest that you study as you see fit for the next 2-3 weeks, then take a new FULL-LENGTH CAT (with the Essay and IR sections). That score result will help to define how well you're studying, and what adjustments (if any) might be needed.

1) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
2) You referred to some rather specific score goals? How do you know that you need to hit those 'minimum' levels? And are you guaranteed anything if you do?

Thanks Rich!

I will definitely follow your advise and start with going through the Manhattan guide for 2-3 weeks, then take another full CAT and will report back with my score.

I was not trying to rush through the test but for Quant, there were questions that I just had no clue about. Even the questions I spent lots of time on, I still got them wrong because I didn't know how to solve them.

Since I took the MGMAT CAT 1 for a baseline score, I am wondering if it is similar/easier/difficult in comparison to the mba.com CAT? Any insight?
My thinking was to save the mba.com CAT for a little later once I have started with some studying. As right now, I have not done any studying or reading.

Thank you!

Hi tittoo,

There are 6 GMAC CATs available (the 2 free CATs, and each of the 2 that come with Exam Pack 1 and Exam Pack 2), so you shouldn't be too concerned about using 1 of them in the early phase of your studies. Since those CATs are the most realistic way to measure your progress while you study, it would be useful to know how you performed on one of those CATs - so you should take one of them next.
